Beautiful Brands International (BBI) has lost another franchise “partner” brand: 1 unit Ludger’s Bavarian Cakery.
According to an inquiry from UnhappyFranchisee.Com, Ludger’s responded: “we are no longer affiliated with Beautiful Brands. Please do not mention us as a partner in future postings.”
This news comes right on the heels of the defection of another BBI partner: SmallCakes, A Cupcakery.
Beautiful Brands International announced the partnership in September, 2011, with a customary, grandiose press release.
“It’s the sort of franchise you dream about because of its ability to provide multiple revenue streams,” David Rutkauskas, BBI founder, president, and CEO, quoted himself as saying. “Ludger’s will be a full-scale coffeehouse/café, featuring coffees, cakes, and sandwiches, plus, it will specialize in creating wedding cakes and supplying restaurants and grocery stores with out of this world cakes and desserts.
“We have huge plans for Ludger’s, and look for it to be a premier concept in our franchise portfolio.” said Rutkauskas.
The boilerplate BBI press release propaganda stated:
The agreement between Ludger’s Cakes and Beautiful Brands International will utilize BBI’s organizational and support system to market and franchise the brand on a national and global scale. BBI’s support will include product development, marketing, real estate, architecture, legal, franchise sales, and other aspects of franchise development.
Ludger’s Bavarian Cakery had a single unit in Tulsa, OK when it signed up with BBI and paid a substantial development fee.
17 months later, BBI has grown Ludger’s Bavarian Cakery to, um, a single unit in Tulsa, OK.
