Under a firestorm of controversy prompted by an expose by UnhappyFranchisee.Com, 11 of the 18 franchise books authored by Dr. John Hayes and published by BizCom Press have been removed from Amazon Marketplace. It’s not clear whether some or all of the books titles were removed by Amazon for Terms of Service violations, or if Hayes and BizCom preemptively removed the titles themselves.
(UnhappyFranchisee.Com) Dr. John Hayes and BizCom have, thus far refused to respond directly to our investigative reporting series on the seemingly deceptive pay-for-praise publishing scheme they’ve been selling to franchise companies desperate for credibility and exposure.
Here’s the timeline of events:
Thursday, March 22, 2018 we published the first post exposing what appeared to be a questionable, if not fraudulent, franchise promotion & publishing scheme. You can read the index and overview here: Dr. John Hayes’ Franchise Fraud School
Our investigation determined that Dr. John Hayes, BizCom Associates, and as many as 23 franchise companies may have collaborated on books that were deceptively marketed as legitimate, objective, non-fictional analysis of franchise programs when they were actually paid advertising and endorsements with chapters written – not by the “author” Dr. John Hayes – but by the companies themselves about themselves.
We also uncovered evidence that Dr. John Hayes may have unethically manipulated Amazon sales and review ratings in order to gain “best-seller” status, and advised his franchisor clients to do the same, in violation of
We contacted Dr. John Hayes to invite corrections, clarifications or an explanation. No response.
We reached out to BizCom Associates with questions. No response.
We contacted FASTSIGNS CEO Catherine Monson and VP Mark Jameson with a request to respond to allegations of unethical conduct and flouting of Amazon rules.
Again, no response.
We filed a complaint with Amazon requesting that they look into the allegations we had found. We shared our documentation and opinions.
Friday, March 30, 2018, about a week after our first blog post, the number of Dr. John P. Hayes titles for sale on Amazon had fallen from 18 titles to just 7 titles still for sale.
6 Dr. John Hayes titles have disappeared completely:
5 Dr. John Hayes titles are still visible but not for sale, and contain the message “The author has temporarily unpublished this book for updates.”
7 titles – including the two “12 Amazing Franchise Opportunities” we found most objectionable – are still listed for sale as of 3/30/18. Bogus reviews that violate Amazon Guidelines – including those left by BizCom Associates President Monica Feid and employee Melissa Rubin – are still active.
