Dunkin’ Donuts was hit by a Priti Shetty franchise lawsuit this week.
Ms. Priti Shetty is a former franchisee who claims Dunkin’ Donuts discriminated against her because she’s an Indian American woman.
The lawsuit alleges that once Preti Shetty became the sole operating partner of her two Dunkin’ Donuts locations, Dunkin’ refused to approve a third location that they later assigned to a white male franchisee.
Priti Shetty also alleges she was verbally harrassed and subjected to “discriminatory anti-female remarks” by Dunkin’ Donuts operational management.

The Amended Complaint and Jury Demand titled Priti Shetty, Amy Pretto, and Reggie Pretto, Plaintiffs, vs. Dunkin Donuts Franchised Restaurants, LLC, a Delaware Limited Liability Company, Baskin-Robbins Franchised Shops, LLC, a Delaware Limited Liability Company and Wayne Miller, individually, Defendants filed in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Middlesex County, also alleges that Dunkin’ Donuts representatives lied to Amy & Reggie Pretto, an African American couple, that “no SDAs (multi store area development agreements) were available in New York” while it’s a known fact SDAs were given to white and other Non-African American franchise developers.
The lawsuit contends that of the over 6,990 Dunkin/Baskin Robbins franchises, less than fifty (50) are owned by African Americans.
The few African American multi-unit franchisees who do exist, the suit alleges, were overwhelmingly steered to economically disadvantaged minority areas, while Dunkin Donuts reserved the economically better areas for white franchisees.
