We received the following franchise warning about the MATCO TOOLS franchise opportunity.  According to commenter “TOMMY CHEUNG” :

“STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS. THEY WILL SELL YOU A BILL OF GOODS,WHICH IS NO GOOD.

“RUMOR HAS IT ,MATCO MAKES MORE MONEY SIGNING NEW FRANCHISES THAN THEY DO TAKING CARE OF THEIR CURRENT ONES.

“DARYL PRITCHETT AND MIKE RAMEY WORK TOGETHER TO SIGN YOU UP AND THEN KICK YOU TO THE CURB. I AM WORKING ON A LAWSUIT AGAINST MATCO, HOPING TO TURN IT INTO A CLASS ACTION SUIT. YOU MAY CONTACT JERRY MARKS AT MARKS AND KLEIN LAW FIRM AT [redacted], IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.

“I INVESTED ALOT OF MONEY IN MATCO AND AFTER 3.5 YEARS THEY SHUT ME DOWN. WHEN THE ECONOMY SLOWED IN 2008,THEY PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS.

“I ALSO SPOKE TO A PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE, WHO CALLED ME, AND STATED THATS THE WAY MATCO DOES BUSINESS. STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS AND RUN LIKE HELL WHEN YOU SEE THEM. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY OR INVEST IN MATCO TOOLS…”

Marks & Klein is a legitimate franchise law firm that often represents franchisees in lawsuits against their franchisors, but we haven’t verified with them whether a lawsuit against Matco Tools is in the works or not.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?  IS MATCO TOOLS A GOOD FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY, A FAIR FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY OR A FRANCHISE SCAM?

that aint fair i wanted a 26 ft truck when i started and was told by big mean matco i could not have it, hey tommy i need jerrys number…lol I:OVE MY TRUCK>ITS RIGHT OUTSIDE ha ha ha

  • MATCO#1

One of the guys on the race team was showing it to me up in Seattle in July I just thought it was too expensive, did what I always told guys not to do.

  • MATCO#1

You have to start in 18 foot, you can move up after. When I started it was a 16 footer, man glad that thing is gone. I thought about a 24 foot, but so many dealerships on my route, it’s tough enough getting in and out. Dropping off another msc4sbfd at honda tomorrow man those carts are great sellers.

  • matcoman

matco#1 and matcoman,,, pleeeassseee, your making me sick. WTF? is the site a matco sales meeting?

Don’t either one of you turn to fast, your going to break your nose!

Matco isn’t responsible for you closing of shops or layoffs in your List of Calls, but they do have an obligation to insure you have ‘AS ADVERTISED’ 325 potential customers.

If shit happens and things change, matco should insure you have the LOC that are specified in the Franchise disclosure.

Matco #1 , you mention the 4 R’s, Maybe 50% of the DM’s and RM’s forgot about the last one…. Retention. I have seen absolutely NO EVIDENCE of MATCO taking any ACTION to exercise retention.

Please, in all of your wisdom, please provide the details of a case where Matco assisted and assured retention.

Awhhh Forget, You’ll just say they only worked 4 days a week and cared too much for their ailing grandmother or their autistic child and that is why their business failed. Matco couldn’t accept the hardship to their purchase average, so just shit can them! We got their money, we’ll move on…..NEXT PLEASE!

Tommy is at home, he can’t post when he is at home, same with guest, their partners will get mad, they can only post away from home.

Entrepreneur Ranks Matco Tools Top Tool Franchise Five out of Six Years

STOW, Ohio, Dec. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Matco Tools is pleased to announce that its Matco Tools Franchise was named the best franchise in the “Tools Distribution Category” and 26th overall in Entrepreneur’s 33nd Annual Franchise 500®.

“Matco Tools is a world class franchise system with low startup costs, internal financing and a proven business model,” said Ernie Lauber, senior vice president of sales at Matco Tools. “We are honored that among the hundreds of other franchises, Matco has been recognized by Entrepreneur Magazine as best in class once again. We see this as a reflection of the power of the Matco’s Business System.”

Franchisors are judged by an independent auditor and measured by a set of objective, quantifiable criteria, including financial strength and stability, growth rate, and size of the system. Also measured are the number of years the company has been in business, the length of time it’s been franchising, startup costs, litigation, percentage of terminations and whether the company provides financing. Those companies that receive the highest cumulative scores join the prestigious Franchise 500.

In the 2012 rankings, Entrepreneur named the Matco Tools Franchise fourth in the “Top 10 Home Based Franchises” category and number 23 in “America’s Top Global Franchise.” Matco Tools has been named the best tool franchise five times in the last six years.

Well former, several times as dm Matco assisted dbr’s in my district with inventory builders. I also assisted several dbr’s with a tp builder package, it’s an awesome package. Matco also has a 10 week payback for dbr’s that are in a bind with their toolbill. Is that sufficient or do you want someone from Stow to come out and sell for you too?

  • MATCO#1

  • MATCO#1

Yep, my snap on neighbor was just bitching to me last week about only being able to order twice a week . Then he had a skip, cost him 50% of the contract, hate the 9% until the guy leaves, then it’s ok .

  • guest17

Oh whoops!! I forgot were supposed to be “unhappy” on this site!

  • MATCO#1

Msc4 are china Tommy, but so is everything in your house.

    The matco Difference:

    Absolutely No Support

Absolutely no franchise fee, just compare our product pricing to other sources, you’ll see the fee

Absolutely no Royalties – you won’t be able to earn enough, and royalties for WHAT?

Absolutely no advertising fees, we don’t advertise, Oh yea, the drag car…

Absolutely o Expensive real estate, just a $100K truck that will need to be replaced before you expect to renew your franchise. So budget $100k for 10 years.

Absolutely NO employees, your wife or husband will be working for FREE!

Absolutely no cold call sales, we give you a potential 325 customers. Of which their average weekly income is $280 / week after taxes. Take out groceries, rent, car payment, child support, medical expenses, utilities, and you will get YOUR fair share…Trust me! Really! Trust me, they can afford that $7000 tool box, don’t worry… they’ll still buy more tools from you…heck you can get $50 a week …NO $75 a week from this guy! Trust me!

You franchise sales people are a joke… really you crack me up :)

  • MATCO#1

It happens matcoman, but most of the time people leave for other reasons, Tommy just can’t get past it.

Think of how many techs you see in and out of your route, they move all the time. Managers move, owners close and move, people are impatient, if they don’t like something they move on.

  • MATCO#1

    Former for a reason!

  • guest17

I have a former snap on dealer on my route, he’s a great customer. He always tells me that I’m lucky that he chose the wrong franchise otherwise i wouldn’t have gotten the chance to be a Matco (#1) dbr in this area.. Lol

  • Former Distr

matcoman, your young and still wet behind the ears, That is OK. Just keep pumping that money machine… matco needs you! God forbid any of those situations happen to you… But don’t worry, matco’s goal is RETENTION. I’m sure when, things get tough, they will be there for you.

  • TOMMY CHEUNG

THANKS FOR KEEPING OUR COUNT GOING,

    MATCO2, BRING IT ON BOY.

MATCO, GET OFF YOUR LAZY AZZ AND CALL THE NUMBERS I POSTED, IF IAM LYING , GET OFF YOUR AZZ AND CALL

ARE U SCARED BOY OR AM I TELLING THE TRUTH.

I CAN BACK MY STATEMENTS, WHAT ABOUT YOU?

MATCO WILL FAIL YOU, BECAUSE MATCO1 AND MATCO2, YOU ARE FAILURES IN LIFE.

KEEP POSTING EVERYWHERE AND ESPECIALLY ON CRAIGSLIST, HIT ALL AUTOMOTIVE SITES, TELL TECHS NOT TO BUY AND LETS SHUT EM DOWN.

  • matcoman

iwrnched for 30 years hey you need tools and they have never been cheap you can buy tools anywhere i sell service and darn great service if you want and can show you my numbers get out there and work, if you believe ,atco is bad why ar the same compaints out there for all the rest of the tool companys?

  • Former Distr

Former for a reason! I got smart and Walked away… I did not sue, I did not blame. I pointed out the mistakes on both sides and informed Tom Willis, if he couldn’t correct the issues, I’ll just walk away….

They could have come after me for violating the franchise agreement after I left, but I think they knew they were wrong and let it be….

18 months since and there is STILL NO Matco here. Good move Matco! Matco is #1! Just not in this town…

  • guest17

HAHA Tommy! You really are a useless parasite to society aren’t you??

  • MATCO#1

One of the goals former…. Remember the good dm’s followed the 4r’s, the bad fsm’s like chuck only had 1 R, and now he is former too.

  • Debbie Solko

    LOL!

Matco damage control is in High gear! ;)

  • guest17

Yes Debbie exactly where your business is not..

  • matcoman

no damage control. we just do our job work all week and know if we fail we screwed up repeat iscrewed up …..

  • Former Distr

Exactly matcoman! If I were running Matco Tools, First and foremost I want YOU to provide the best service in town. When I go out and visit your customers, I want to hear that they want you to service them.

But that is not what I’m seeing or experienced. Matco wants $$$$$, they don’t care how you get it, just buy TOOLS!!!, thats how they make their money.

The problem is in the long run, they will alienate the end customer for the root of ALL EVIL!!! $$$$, and the next thing you know, they will be gone! Pufff!

The Franchisor does not care about the end user, that is YOUR problem, they care about you and YOUR MONEY! Just look at the facts, thats all you have to do… Look at the facts.

  • Former Distr

I’ve never used the term, but it is sooooo right!

CHURN and BURN !!! Yea baby!

  • MATCO#1

Yep Tommy you keep proving everyones points about you, I swear you are smoking something, you say don’t call names then you call me a loser at life.

You are going to have to do a lot better than that Tommy boy!

  • matcoman

like said before i have talked to ex matco dbrs and not 1 blames matco not 1

  • MATCO#1

The biggest fact here former is Tommy boy likes to call people names, I guess he feels powerful pushing the keys down hard calling people names. His wife must have went to bed, so he snuck out of the room to read the posts

  • guest17

Do you think subway cares if you eat their subs and lose weight by doing so?? Do you think universities care if you pay your tuition and then don’t graduate??

  • matcoman

i do believe you had a concern but it seems to me with dm/rm i worked dealers my whole life and it was not factory doing bad almost always was service manager,

  • guest17

Yeah snuck out of the padded room

  • MATCO#1

Speaking of subway, you ever wonder why the successful subway franchisees have to own 5 subways to make it yet, if you work hard you can make it with 1 Matco franchise

  • MATCO#1

I heard a rumor Debbie is speaking to Cornwell about switching over…is that true Debbie?

  • matcoman

tommy who are you working for, now that you could not make it on your own?

  • Former Distr

Your right matcoman, you can’t blame Matco. Read the contract you sign, you’ve signed it…. As the saying goes read’em and weep.

As I told Tom Willis, I know what the contract said, and I expected that THEY-Matco, would act in good faith. They didn’t. I talked with the Lawyer, and did what I had to do. If they can’t hold up to their end of the bargain, I won’t either.

My only purpose of being here is to inform potential distributors that from MY experience and those that I know of, Matco will NOT be a partner as advertised.

  • matcoman

yea debbie, before you do go to cornwell fanchise compaints oh boy thats fun to read.

  • matcoman

former like i said i have talked to ex dbrs and not 1 complaint about matco and i talk to them in person not hide behind computer

  • Debbie Solko

Sorry to see yet ANOTHER distributor come forward
and share another story SADLY the same
Thank you for posting Danny, I’m sorry you’re in
    the same boat
Call me if you need anything
    Contact info on http://www.ladymatco.com

Matco damage control will have to ratchet it up now.

    Overdrive. ;)

FACTS – far too many stories, far too many testimonies
detailing Matco’s Dirty little secrets of deception, fraud,
    Unfair business practices

  • Former Distr

matcoman, that is sweet that you’ve talked with ex dbrs and no complaints.. And in person… very nice….

And I have no reason to not believe you. But your tone seems to suggest that you don’t believe me. I’ve been a distributor 5 times longer than you and have potentially met 5 times as many distributors. I also served on MDAC for 6 years and potentially met more experienced distributors than you’ll meet in the next 10 years.

I also had the opportunity to have more one-on-one meetings with Matco executives because of …. I’ll let you think about that one for a while….

  • MATCO#1

Hmmm, not seeing Danny’s post did I miss something?

Overdrive Debbie you should try it sometime.

Hey former thanks for your mdac service, would be nice if it was once a month calls instead of only 4 times a year.

  • MATCO#1

I don’t see any post from a mysterious guy named Danny

You ever notice Debbie never answers questions or says anything positive just spreads hate and discontent.
