We received the following franchise warning about the MATCO TOOLS franchise opportunity.  According to commenter “TOMMY CHEUNG” :

“STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS. THEY WILL SELL YOU A BILL OF GOODS,WHICH IS NO GOOD.

“RUMOR HAS IT ,MATCO MAKES MORE MONEY SIGNING NEW FRANCHISES THAN THEY DO TAKING CARE OF THEIR CURRENT ONES.

“DARYL PRITCHETT AND MIKE RAMEY WORK TOGETHER TO SIGN YOU UP AND THEN KICK YOU TO THE CURB. I AM WORKING ON A LAWSUIT AGAINST MATCO, HOPING TO TURN IT INTO A CLASS ACTION SUIT. YOU MAY CONTACT JERRY MARKS AT MARKS AND KLEIN LAW FIRM AT [redacted], IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.

“I INVESTED ALOT OF MONEY IN MATCO AND AFTER 3.5 YEARS THEY SHUT ME DOWN. WHEN THE ECONOMY SLOWED IN 2008,THEY PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS.

“I ALSO SPOKE TO A PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE, WHO CALLED ME, AND STATED THATS THE WAY MATCO DOES BUSINESS. STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS AND RUN LIKE HELL WHEN YOU SEE THEM. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY OR INVEST IN MATCO TOOLS…”

Marks & Klein is a legitimate franchise law firm that often represents franchisees in lawsuits against their franchisors, but we haven’t verified with them whether a lawsuit against Matco Tools is in the works or not.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?  IS MATCO TOOLS A GOOD FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY, A FAIR FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY OR A FRANCHISE SCAM?

Hey guest I thought you were smart, my bad for assuming….so I will make it more clear for you

MATCO Tools is rated #1 in mobile tools. Matci tools is #1 out of 4 franchises now, Matco is #1, snap on #2, who knows where mac and Cornwell are they difnt finish in top 500.

I didn’t say that Matco was #1 overall, I guess if you want to clean shitters all day Jani king might be ok, and if I wanted to own 5 subways to make a living that might be ok too.

  • Former Distr

I had $21K in warranties last year, I send them in every month. I would anticipate Matco’s Finest sent in 2-3 times as much, if not more. Some only send in once a year, of course Matco’s policies make sure they don’t credit you more than your original price, or go back two years on the price.

Any way you look at it, Matco is making money on your warranties. May only be 2-3%, but none the less, making money. Besides the evidence (that my lawyer currently has) on ‘convenient’ shortages. Why does MDBS give you an estimate, if it is only going to off by 10% everytime?

OBC, please don’t respond, you’ve never experienced it. Don’t comment.

    CHURN AND BURN !!!

  • MATCO#1

Todd, you have nothing to sell…Is this 18,000 you refer too the actual inventory you had on your truck….yep the truth comes out now, you where cherry picking half of Arkansas, had less than 100 customers, only working 3 days a week, and had 18,000 in inventory….nobody would buy a failing business todd….nobody!

  • MATCO#1

    Shake and bake Todd

  • Tommy Cheung

MATCO1, You are wrong again, I stayed at all meetings full time and helped set the meetings up, I was the first one there, once again, call darry pritchett, the D.M. and ask him, or are you scared, you haven’t called the first number I provided you,

If I am wrong call the numbers or quit bitching, I have provided you more than one number to call, many numbers have been provided, but you haven’t called the first, which means you are full of shit.Matco has darryl’s number, if you are soo worried about what I am saying, call.

From the press release on matco’s #1 ranking:

“We are invested in the success of every franchisee and are committed to providing a foundation for growth including flexible financing options for franchisees and their customers, national advertising, and outstanding service and support,” said Lauber.

I would be happy to debate Mr. Lauber in a public forum on the investment they have made to insure success of EVERY Franchisee. Please exhibit their commitment for growth of the franchisees.

If they don’t have to do anything, by contract, with a deteriorating LOC, they are doing just the opposite.

They are committed to providing a foundation for Failure!

WRONG. Mac Tools only sells franchises currently. Did you say you have tool industry experience, MATCO#1? You don’t seem to be up on the competition.

MATCO#1 wrote that the higher ranked franchises require $1M in the bank, “it’s all about the money.”

WRONG. Subway starts at $84K, HR Block $35K, Anytime Fitness $46K, Stratus Cleaning only $3K, Jazzercize less than $3K, Kumon $67K, Liberty Tax $67K.

All these are rated higher than Matco Tools in the EntreManure 500.

MATCO#1 wrote: that this site “appears to be recruitment for marks and Klein”

I think admin made it clear that this site has no relationship with marks & klein. plus this site seems to have been around longer than this dispute and deals with all kinds of franchises. Not to mention it makes no sense. Lawyers make their money racking up billable hours in court, not on internet sites.

MATCO#1 is so consistently and loudly INCORRECT, he may actually be a plant by the WMD (Wronged Matco Distributors).

If so, please have him post something that’s correct once or twice so it’s a little more believable.

Be real a bucket and a srub brush compaired to a tool business.

  • Todd. 18k is not inventory. 3 days a week makes unhappy customers. So what bidoness does he have to sell?

  • Guest

MATCO#1 wrote “MATCO Tools is rated #1 in mobile tools. Matci tools is #1 out of 4 franchises now,”

WRONG. Only 2 submitted info to Entrepreneur.

MATCO#1 wrote: “who knows where mac and Cornwell are they difnt finish in top 500.”

WRONG. If they had submitted info but finished outside the 500 they would be listed as “not ranked”

This guy is so wrong so fast, I can’t correct him fast enough.

  • MATCO#1

Tommy you are an idiot, kevins been in business 22 years and has 2 trucks I put my money on him being ok

  • Todd A. Peterson

    You see Matco#1

I was allowed to buy a franchise from a distributor who needed $18,000 as a break even with Matco. He didn’t even get anywhere near that for his inventory.

You ask why did you buy his route?

Well like I said before I didn’t want that piece of crap Isuzu. Matco had no other option for a truck that is what start-up franchises got . I am sure that was the most profitable for Matco.

Fayetteville Route was where I was originally supposed to go! The down side of it would be it hadn’t seen a Matco Distributor in like 8 Years or more. Techs hated that guy too. Remember I was a tech. I also, lived in this area most my life.

So,wanting to be my own boss, not wanting an Isuzu Truck and having established accounts is what led me to Gary Hagars route. He may have only been running it three days but at least who he was servicing liked him and bought tools from him. That Fayetteville route might have worked out for me but it would have taken a lot longer DUE to it not having a Distributor in over 8 years or more. At least I never saw a truck!

  • MATCO#1

Nope guest you are wrong. And apparently bored as you have never had a Matco franchise or know anything about the tool business.

But for shits and giggles let’s say both Mac and Cornwell didn’t submit, do you think either would be ranked higher than Matco or snap on….ummm I am going to put your paycheck on NO!

  • Matco2

Tommy if Matco1 called the numbers you would be running him instead of the currant situation of him running you.

  • Guest

MATCO#1 wrote: “shake and bake todd!”

Jeez, now I feel kind of guilty exposing him so thoroughly and mercilessly.

I remember Debbie quoting William Shakespeare. The best MATCO#1 can do is quote Ricky Bobby?

  • MATCO#1

Former since you only sell 2400 a week I am not sure any vp of any company can afford to give you the time of day, let alone a debate.

  • Tommy Cheung

now, now, no name calling, are you getting upset, I dont care how long he has been in business, what about the guy here in ft walton beach, was in business 24 years, had a heart attack and back surgery, dedicated tool man, and now matco kicked him out. What is you response to that?

Do you honestly think they care about how much time you have been a distributor? Hell no, time dosen’t matter, you are disposable. It’s only a matter of time, you will see.

YOU ARE ONLY A NUMBER WITH THEM.

  • Todd A. Peterson

All this to say that Matco sold me a NON-VIABLE Franchise from day one and knew it!

  • MATCO#1

Guest that was such a funny movie….Ricky Bobby I think as a tribute to you guest I am going to buy the DVD and play it on my truck next week, maybe that will help ignite next year…I think if I quoted shakespeare on my truck I wouldn’t sell very many tools.

Yep it’s official all next week Ricky Bobby on the Matco truck.

  • MATCO#1

Tommy have had 2 distributors die, and I can tell you that Matco treated the spouses like queens. One dbr even owed Matco money, they refused to take her money.

Matco is first class and NUMBER ONE!

  • Todd A. Peterson

    By the way Matco#1

It is Matco’s decision to terminate a franchise for not being at 80% of the National Average. They don’t HAVE TOO!

There are a lot of variables they could consider when making those decisions like:

    1) Does the Distributor have a viable route in a bad economy!
    2) Was the Distributor supported and notified and given an opportunity to correct the problem before we take action!
    3) Does this Distributor have a long history of being a successful distributor for Matco. Does his route support a higher purchase average that what he is purchasing?
    4) Has distributor been requesting for help?

  • MATCO#1

Todd why weren’t you man enough to take a vacant route. My first route no dbr for 5 years and the guy was an ass, within a year top 150. This route wad being serviced and has been harder than the vacant route

  • Todd A. Peterson

But the cold hard facts are Matco doesn’t care just like you OBC guys DON’T CARE!!!

  • Guest

It was a funny movie. Remember the part where Ricky Bobby hallucinated that he was a Matco distributor and ran around screaming “I’m churning! I’m churning!”

He tore off his firesuit thinking it was a Matco uniform? Thank Baby Jesus it was just a bad dream!

  • Todd A. Peterson

WOW! Now you are GOING to attack me for making a GOOD business decision!

Belittle my MANHOOD because I didnt take a vacant route and a more profitable truck for Matco! When I had two property’s and an 800+ credit score on the line.

Keep running those lips! I love it when you prove my points for me!

  • MATCO#1

Sure Todd but what else could Matco do for you, you had 700 customers?

  • Matco2

    Todd,

    Here is how it works…..
If the contract says 80% of NPA than that is what it is. Its a contract…..not a wishy washy feel good may be thing.

It is this very situation here that makes it that way. Think of the law suits file if they did it any other way…… So in short you and your law suit is guiding the hand that says 80% or beter.

    GET IT.

  • MATCO#1

Guest must have been a different movie, I thought Ricky was giving his shirt off his back to another successful Matco distributor.

  • Todd A. Peterson

SEE! Even you admit Matco gave me 700 customers.

  • Todd A. Peterson

So how can they take away what they gave you?

  • Todd A. Peterson

Go ahead and tell the readers that this guided hand did not do a survey before they gave me a separation letter. DM told me he would more than once in 2009 at my request and begging and it was never done till July 26, 2010 after my separation letter. Then it was done fraudulently with closed shops, inflated head count, shops that were never on a signed route list and shops i had never heard of. But this survey also stated I was only servicing 67% of my route. FRAUD!!!

  • MATCO#1

Hardly Todd you said you had 700 customers, but couldn’t get 248 on the books. I got 350 half of you and have 248 on the books

  • Matco2

    OK lets try this again…..
Lets say you had a Midas Muffler……
They say were you can have a shop and all that goes with that.

Now the city says they are going to rip up the street in front of your shop for the summer. You go out of business. How is that Midas falt…..

It is called risk…… We take that as owners……..

  • Todd A. Peterson

I know that is a bold statement without proof!

Here is Monday’s true assigned LOC:
Out of the false survey which said I had 60 customer’s only 33 are viable customers which I and Matco had signed for.

2 customers were from a closed shop. Been out of business in that location for over 9 months. (58)

8 customers were inflated head count because three days later when I signed another route list with 405 customers these same shops had less head count.

17 customers were added to the false survey and not on my LOC. 60-27=33

  • Todd A. Peterson

    Liar!!!

    MATCO#1 on December 29th, 2011 1:40 pm
Sure Todd but what else could Matco do for you, you had 700 customers?
    !

Matco do for me 700 customers!

  • Guest

Matco2 writes “Lets say you had a Midas Muffler… They say were you can have a shop and all that goes with that.”

    YES!
Let’s say you had a Midas Muffler!
Let’s say that Midas Muffler dictated who their franchisees could sell mufflers to?
Let’s say before a franchisee could fix a muffler on a customer’s car he had to call Midas and ask for permission.
And lets say Midas told him “No, you can’t sell that customer a muffler because we want to save him for another franchisee we’re trying to sign up and we want to make sure there’s enough business to dupe, I mean, entice the new guy.”

    OR
Let’s say you had a Midas Muffler!
Let’s say you had a Midas Muffler and you called the Home Office because your sales were low and you needed help.
Let’s say that instead of giving you HELP with your low sales, they said
“Your sales are too low. We’re going to terminate you and sell your franchise to someone else whose credit is as good as yours was before you signed up with us!”
And what if they sold to a new guy and he went through the same thing?
So they sold it to a new guy and he failed, too?
Guess it was those lazy franchisees fault, right?

Hmmm… wonder how that would go over with Midas franchisees?

Prospective Matco franchisees take heed. That’s the kind of relationship you’ll be getting. Maybe you should go with Midas after all.

  • Todd A. Peterson

Matco#1 you can lie all you want I know Junior and I don’t know you! I thought you were a stand up guy but obviously I was wrong. I can just imagine how people get to know other people when they see who they really are. You know the truths about Matco because you were a DM. You saw first hand turnover and failure rates. You have heard my testimonials and the facts I have freely provided. I am not stupid I know I am giving the Matco bully a time to mount a defense of the accusations I have provided but factual fraud is here I can prove it beyond a shadow of doubt. Just keep derailing and misguiding I can only hope that the turmoil you are putting me and others through will only come back to bite you in the butt. Karma is a B*^%$!

  • Todd A. Peterson

How do you address Fraud , False Termination, Lying, Falsifying Information by a Franchisor in order to terminate Franchisee?

  • Todd A. Peterson

Day one (Monday)almost 50% were falsified by DM. See where he gets his 67% are not being serviced?

  • Kevin

Tommy said: “KEVIN, ITS REALLY GETTING TO YOU ISN’T IT , THE FACT THAT MATCO SUCKS AND YOU ARE GOING DOWN WITH THEM, THEY HAVE UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS FOR YOU, BECAUSE YOU ARE EMPLOYED BY THEM.

Yeah, it sure is getting to me, Tommy. Shaking in my Redbacks. Looks to me like it’s getting to YOU, since you’re yelling again.

And no, no unemployment benefits for me. I’ve secured my fututre by doing well as a distributor. I don’t need handouts, like yourself. Sorry that upsets you.

  • Todd A. Peterson

Good point Matco2 I guess we don’t have a case because it will open the door for others to take Wall Streets money in the future. So Matco can Fraud other Franchisees and make more money.

I guess your precious Matco should have thought about that before they lied, falsified documents, frauded and falsely terminated my franchise!!!

  • Todd A. Peterson

    Kevin BerGODman!

I call you this because you think you are better than those around you. You hear the truths and facts and hide behind your OBC Charter with two Franchises under one Distributor. Like I said before OBC could care a less they don’t have to play by the same rules as the LOC clan do they? It is easy to ridicule and call people names and make them a failure when you are spoon fed success from Matco. OBC is on hear because they need NEW recruits to pay for their EXPO next year. Anyone want to pay for Kevin a week at EXPO next year?

  • MATCO#1

Todd I can sleep at night just fine. I didn’t falsify anything, didn’t do anything wrong. I was repeating what you said, you said you had 700 headcount I only repeated what you said. I have no idea how much you actually had and quiet honestly dong care, it was you that brought it up. It was you that said you couldn’t get 248 in the books.

    Have a nice day.

  • Tommy Cheung

Kevin, its all right we can help you, matco offers unemployment benefits to you and the rest of matco, you are employed by them.

You may also be entitled to welfare benefits in your hometown. When tool business dies, you may be able to pay your truck payment or possibly your tool bill with matco, ask, they may accept welfare checks.

TO ALL POTENTIAL FRANCHISEE’S, WOULD YOU WANT TO WORK WITH PEOPLE LIKE THIS, they are supposed to have your back, people like this is supposed to help collect your money on the street when a tech moves to another shop, do you honestly think people like this would send you, your money? I don;t think so, these people are called backstabbers.

DO NOT BUY A MATCO FRANCHISE

  • Todd A. Peterson

Okay Matco#1 I forgive your constant barrage of Harassment.

  • Matco2

    Todd,

Not sure on how it all went…… Haven’t heard the other side….. Take a break….. This will eat you alive……. And that you are doing to yourself…… No one here or Matco is doing that….. Your only hurting yourself….

  • MATCO#1

Guest there are a couple issues with your post.

Ummm for one I have never seen a midas store on wheels, so it would be tough to go in someone else list of calls.

Now on the other hand I guarantee if I wanted to open one on main st in englishtown, nj right across the street from an excisting Midas….yep guest, you fessed it they would tell me no way!

Now I don’t know if they have performance standards at midas, the ones I service the guy owns , or I should say owned 8, he just sold 3

  • Guest

MATCO#1 writes: “I don’t know if they have performance standards at midas, the ones I service the guy owns , or I should say owned 8, he just sold 3”

MATCO#1 adds another caution to those considering a Matco Tools franchise. With a legit franchise, like Midas, you can actually sell your franchise. Legit franchises are themselves assets, with value.

According to the Marks & Klein report, fewer than 7% of Matco franchisees are able to sell or even GIVE their franchises away.

Even Kevin acknowledges they can’t be sold because, one can only assume, they have no inherent value.

Thanks MATCO#1 for another Matco franchise warning!

  • MATCO#1

I have told you before guest, if your son needs a job because he is lazy, you don’t want him working in the office, a franchise is not the solution.
