We received the following franchise warning about the MATCO TOOLS franchise opportunity.  According to commenter “TOMMY CHEUNG” :

“STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS. THEY WILL SELL YOU A BILL OF GOODS,WHICH IS NO GOOD.

“RUMOR HAS IT ,MATCO MAKES MORE MONEY SIGNING NEW FRANCHISES THAN THEY DO TAKING CARE OF THEIR CURRENT ONES.

“DARYL PRITCHETT AND MIKE RAMEY WORK TOGETHER TO SIGN YOU UP AND THEN KICK YOU TO THE CURB. I AM WORKING ON A LAWSUIT AGAINST MATCO, HOPING TO TURN IT INTO A CLASS ACTION SUIT. YOU MAY CONTACT JERRY MARKS AT MARKS AND KLEIN LAW FIRM AT [redacted], IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.

“I INVESTED ALOT OF MONEY IN MATCO AND AFTER 3.5 YEARS THEY SHUT ME DOWN. WHEN THE ECONOMY SLOWED IN 2008,THEY PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS.

“I ALSO SPOKE TO A PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE, WHO CALLED ME, AND STATED THATS THE WAY MATCO DOES BUSINESS. STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS AND RUN LIKE HELL WHEN YOU SEE THEM. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY OR INVEST IN MATCO TOOLS…”

Marks & Klein is a legitimate franchise law firm that often represents franchisees in lawsuits against their franchisors, but we haven’t verified with them whether a lawsuit against Matco Tools is in the works or not.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?  IS MATCO TOOLS A GOOD FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY, A FAIR FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY OR A FRANCHISE SCAM?

IGNORE THE DEFENDERS, THEY ARE TRYING TO DISRUPT US.

Do it the matco way, ignore.

What is the number one quality that can help a service professional succeed? Is it friendliness? How about the ability to work effectively with others? What about being a team player? Then there is always having good communication skills. The most important quality an individual must have to succeed in business or in life, by far, is a positive attitude.

How and why does one person quickly bounce back after a risk has failed while another spends years regretting their decision and repeatedly verbalizing “if only I had…”? What element always seems to help one person achieve their goals, while another individual cannot get past their last attempt ten years ago to create a dream? Why does one sales clerk willingly help an irate customer while another takes the verbal accusations personally?

  • MATCO#1

Set an example and walk your talk. When we focus on being a positive provider of service, responsive to the customer regardless of their attitude, we present a positive image for others to see and emulate. The impression we present of our business is favorable and memorable. People want to be around positive individuals and are more willing to follow the example you will set.

  • MATCO#1

Avoid negativity. Avoid people who are negative in thought and action. Surround yourself with positive people. Negativity breeds more negativity. When you are around others who have a positive attitude it will be easier for you to remain upbeat and focused.

hey debbie answer any questions? what does your mdac dbr say, how about your dbrs in your district? how are the other dbrs in your district doing, are they having concerns with yor dm,did you pick your route?

  • Me franchise fooled

Hold on matco man. Do you really think it is your own business? My definition of being your own boss is doing what you want how you want when you want. What happens if you stop going to one of your list of calls because they don’t buy anything or just use you for warranty? Or even better when they do buy they pay when they feel like it? When the shop calls matco looking for service it gets sent to your district manager. Then your phone rings and your manager tells you to go see the shop. They are calling for service. I will give you a better scenario. You wanna take it easy and buy less tools because either you are think the inventory in the truck is out of control or you wanna just take it easy. Well expect your phone to ring from your manager again asking why your purchases are low. I think another fellow on here went through that. My point is if it’s your own buisiness and you are your own boss then why is someone calling me and telling me what to do? I think these tool truck franchises are really just you being forced into an undisclosed employee of the company with no pay check. Even the ratchets we fix. All that time spent and we get zero dollars. You bring your car to a dealership for warranty work the tech working on your car gets paid for his time.

  • MATCO#1

I wonder if when someone gets kicked to the curb if they could file assault charges?

  • matcoman

still no answer from debbie. but alot of negative talk.

  • MATCO#1

If you want to get paid like a tech for warranty time, go back to turning wrenches.

Complaining about fixing a ratchet that should not take you more than 1 minute is foolish at best.

Lets see, for example if for some unknown reason, matco said ok, we will pay you for fixing ratchets. We will pay you $10.00 an hour, they give you 2 minute flat rate to fix the ratchet, because some are slower than others. So everytime you turn in a ratchet repair kit you get 32 cents, for your labor. I think I turn in about 5 heads a month, so holy crap $1.60 a month, or $19.20 over a year on average….are you freaking serious

Are you guys really complaing about that?

and how about this….compact route requirement…Debbie, please show me in any franchise agreement, law, or any sort of document about a so called compact route requirement. I will save you the time, it doesn’t excist.

  • matcoman

i have changed the way my route is 5 or 6 times sence i have been in business and changed the days i see my stores all to get less windshield time.HEY ITS YOUR BUSINESS. i also work 5 days a week. and sometimes 6 days.and i make a very good living…

  • richard

    matco#1

if you can fix a ratchet in less than a minute from the time a customer gets on your truck and adresses his problem, the clock just started there and look up what kit fits his ratchet and replace it. then process the paperwork and give it back to him then you are the man, but i dont think that you can do that all in a minute. go pound sand somewheres else huh

  • MATCO#1

I think tomorrow I will take a poll, I will ask my techs, hey if a customer comes and asks you to check his tire, “because thats about the length of time it takes to change a head in a ratchet” how much do you charge?

On second thought I am going to save myself the embarassment, I know the answer…it’s nothing. Shoot Discount Tire, and all the tires shops in my area fix tires for free now days…its called customer service, they want the business.

It’s the same reason I give away name brand pop on my truck for free, I want the business. Yeah it costs me $15,00 a week, and another 8 a week in ice, but its one of the things that sets me apart from my competiton. My Cornwell guy, who is now out of business, used to give away craigmont pop, all my customers gave him so much crap he stopped giving away pop, then there was less and less tools on his truck, then he started complaining to guys nobody was paying him, then he started telling guys sales were slow, my customers were confused I was telling them business was awesome, he was telling them the economy was bad…well he was right it was bad for him.

  • MATCO#1

Richard, really you have to look up the part number? What paperwork? I don’t give it back until he is done shopping! And yeah if I had 2 minutes to do it, I could probably pound sand too.

  • matcoman

ive bee in business for 2 years, i dont look up parts to fix a ratchet, come on it ain.t like running your owm business…

  • MATCO#1

I am with you matcoman, just changed a couple shops this week. I had one shop manager last week say, “you know if you come in on Tuesdays, everybody is working plus 2 more guys that you never see..” Well guess where I am going tomorrow.

  • matcoman

    debbie??????????

  • matcoman

i thought debbie started all this hmmm

  • matcoman

come out come out where ever you are

  • matcoman

i really would like to know the answers to my questions, pleeeease

  • Me franchise fooled

    Matco 1,

Just so you know I never turned wrenches. So don’t make assumptions. Ok let’s talk about your silly answer to me about compensation for fixing ratchets. If it takes you less then 1 minute as you stated to take your customers ratchet, walk to the truck, get your new kit out of the drawer, take old pieces out, clean inside ratchet, install new pieces, enter warranty in computer and walk back inside the shop to hand ratchet back to your customer in 1 minute??? Come on man you gotta stop drinking the kool aid. I have a better scenario for you. I say it takes me a good 15 minutes to that process on each ratchet. I will low ball it for gun slingers like you and say it takes 5 minutes a ratchet. I do about 10 ratchets a week. Now $10 an hour is a stupid figure. Your business needs to do $10k a week. That is $2k a day. In a 8 hour day that is $250 an hour. But since you work cheap I will say $100 an hour. So you fix 10 ratchets a week at 5 minutes a piece at $100 an hour that is 50 minutes a week which is around $83 a week. Now remember that is $100 an hour which is low. Take $83 and multiply that by 52 weeks in a year so that is $4316. So if you do this for 25 years that is $107900. That doesn’t include time spent servicing other things like tool box slides or other odds and ends in the shops we get calls on. So if you like working for free maybe you like to fix my ratchets and other repairs for free? I’m not trying to cause any conflict with you it’s just I was that guy at one time thinking it’s only a little of my time. But after a while I starting thinking. How much time s this costing me.. It adds up.

  • MATCO#1

So Me franchise, you should have combined your workload. If I go into a shop and a guy hands me a ratchet to fix, I continue to talk to other customers. then when they come out to the truck, I go out with them to fix the ratchet.

  • matcoman

i have looked at debbies matco tool dist site and seen that if she does not like what was written on it she removes it.

  • richard

thank you me franchise fooled. they make it seem like bs where its the principal of it that counts.
some have exceptional routes and others dont but they want to put the blame on the individual.
i was once told by a former dbr turned trainer , terry hatley, that you cant make chicken soup out of chicken poop, this is very true.
hows the saying, dont hate the players, hate the game.

  • MATCO#1

Hey Matcoman, I just found a tool been looking for, for a while now. Just wanted to pass the info along.
I had a guy asking me for an air tool powered transfer pump, to pump fluid out of a transmission. Didn’t want the MV7300 style, said it was small, run by an air ratchet.
I thought the guy was nuts, but I found one, and we carry it. It is made by PBT the part number is 0470910, its special order from Private Brand Tools.

This is what happens when strong constructive criticism is posted to the failed. When sucessful distributors speak the truth……..crickets…..and Richard wanting someone to do something with sand. Doesnt appear that Debbie has anything else to cut, copy, paste…..crickets. Sorry for not posting sooner had to drop off a 4325 stocker (20% off at last DM Meeting!!!). Question Debby: If today is a holiday will this be a three day week for you?
I would really like to see your response to matcoman’s questions. Are you afraid answering them may affect your pending law suit?

  • MATCO#1

So Richard, speaking of players and games. You are saying that the only reason Tom Brady is a good QB is because he plays for the Patriots. If he played for the Raiders all of the sudden he would suck?

  • MATCO#1

Richard I am just not implying that its the person…it is!!!! You can be in denial if you want.

sold 2 of those boxes myself oh and thanks matco#1 will ck that in morning. sure do hear alot of cherping going on…

  • MATCO#1

Isnt it weird Cary, both of us thousands of miles apart, totally different climats, and customers base, you sell a 4325R on a holiday, I sell a 5328 with a hutch and side locker, had to give the hutch away for free….its ok though I got it for free, love the free add on promotions! First work day of the new year! I am sure its a 5 day week for you just as it will be for me.

YW, matcoman, that same company also has a pretty cool crankshaft and camshaft seal tool kit, for about 180, #0470960

I got news for you. My wife had her tire checked a month ago. The shop took tire off. Dumped it in water and sprayed water on it too checking for leaks. Found no leaks pressured the tire to the correct psi and reinstalled tire. She was charged $15 for the service. I had no complaints. You know why. They looked at her tire right away, was honest, didn’t try selling her something she didn’t need like a patch or new tire and out the door she went in 15 minutes. Is that unfair to you she was charged $15????

    Goodnight children

How True Debbie How True, but what is Tommy going to think when he reads it, the both of you have outposted everyone else 4 to 1.

  • richard

im so happy for you matco1. come here and see for yourself if you think that you are so high and mighty. i think that you might be surprised but we both know that wont happen because you might get proven wrong and you wouldnt want that to happen would you

  • MATCO#1

Me franchise, its not unfair if you dont think it is. The area I live in, my daughters car had a flat, I took it off, brought it to Discount, they had if for about 15 mins, brought it back, said there was a nail in the tire. I asked them how much, the manager said next time you need tires come here…no charge. I had a $5.00 in my pocket, said buy yourself a cup of coffee.
I guess if I was getting paid $100 an hour to change ratchet heads I would have had a $20 in my pocket and bought him a steak dinner.

  • MATCO#1

Richard, its easy to say…come here, I already did that. Have started 2 routes that were uncessful and brought them to the top….Its the attitude and technique, you can deny all you want, I have been in this business too long, I have seen it and lived it.
Attitude is everything! I am sorry if you didn’t make it.

  • MATCO#1

Richard I would love to move routes every couple of 3 years, I think it would be fun, but with 3 teenagers not going to happen.
What I would really like to do though, after the kids are out, is be a relief driver for people. If MATCO guys want to take a vacation but dont want to loose sales or collections call me up, pay for my flight, hotel, and pay me $500 a week and I am there, of course thats still a few years away.

  • matcoman

now matco#1 that would be a cool way to make extra money, but you know what.what if you did it in all the districks around you. i bet that might work and the dbrs might go for that, would not cost as much and with 30 or more ther that could do pretty well.

  • richard

it is what it is. we shall let the courts decide.

  • Me franchise fooled

Ok matco 1 your a comedian on top of being a super tool man. That is cool. So far all I have gotten out of this conversation from you is working for free is ok and you will buy a steak dinner. Your a he’ll of a guy. For the record I have not failed at my business and probably do twice the numbers then most of the people here. Even me being a high volume dealer doesn’t think it’s right for a company who makes a lot of money to have people like you and I servicing there tools for free. In the state I live in if my manager had to meet me towards the end of the day to help me fix a tool box that had messed up drawer slides and it took he and I an extra 2 hours to get box apart and install these new slides he gets paid 2 hours overtime. If lives an hour away that’s 3 hours. I been there done that too btw. So why shouldnt he do it for free like I did? Let me guess because you said so…..

  • matcoman

i smell a mcdonald spilt coffee law suit

  • MATCO#1

Ok, several things wrong with your statement, I know for a fact, Cary, guest17, guest 2, Kevin and I are all Top 50 DBR’s so double?….doubt that!

Second of all I was a DM, and I can tell you this, there is absolutely NO way your district manager got paid overtime. Matco pays there DM’s salary plus commission, NO OVERTIME, NEVER! So if your DM stayed to help you he did it on his own, you may want to thank him because he probably saved you 3 hours.

If you truly been there, done that, you know DM’s dont get overtime, if that was the case, oh boy does MATCO owe me a wheel barrell full of money.

  • MATCO#1

i can honestly say that i have never had a dm take the time to help me with anything to help my business in any way. its always been, i dont know, call mdbs. or its your business not mine.

  • Me franchise fooled

Ok again state law where I live is any employee salary or hourly must be paid overtime after 40 hours a week. You also have no idea who I am. I have eaten guys like you for breakfast. My purchases are probably more then your sales for the year. I didn’t jump in this conversation too talk about that. I was just stating my opinion about my time spent fixing tools. I think it’s unfair and I leave it at that.

  • MATCO#1

Me franchise, well when you insult me you are going to get a response, I seriously doubt your purchases are more than my sales, I can garantee the #1 DBR purchases are not more than my sales, just like you, you dont know me either.
