We received the following franchise warning about the MATCO TOOLS franchise opportunity.  According to commenter “TOMMY CHEUNG” :

“STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS. THEY WILL SELL YOU A BILL OF GOODS,WHICH IS NO GOOD.

“RUMOR HAS IT ,MATCO MAKES MORE MONEY SIGNING NEW FRANCHISES THAN THEY DO TAKING CARE OF THEIR CURRENT ONES.

“DARYL PRITCHETT AND MIKE RAMEY WORK TOGETHER TO SIGN YOU UP AND THEN KICK YOU TO THE CURB. I AM WORKING ON A LAWSUIT AGAINST MATCO, HOPING TO TURN IT INTO A CLASS ACTION SUIT. YOU MAY CONTACT JERRY MARKS AT MARKS AND KLEIN LAW FIRM AT [redacted], IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.

“I INVESTED ALOT OF MONEY IN MATCO AND AFTER 3.5 YEARS THEY SHUT ME DOWN. WHEN THE ECONOMY SLOWED IN 2008,THEY PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS.

“I ALSO SPOKE TO A PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE, WHO CALLED ME, AND STATED THATS THE WAY MATCO DOES BUSINESS. STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS AND RUN LIKE HELL WHEN YOU SEE THEM. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY OR INVEST IN MATCO TOOLS…”

Marks & Klein is a legitimate franchise law firm that often represents franchisees in lawsuits against their franchisors, but we haven’t verified with them whether a lawsuit against Matco Tools is in the works or not.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?  IS MATCO TOOLS A GOOD FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY, A FAIR FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY OR A FRANCHISE SCAM?

Whoops that was suppose to be :

    Look Guest. Jay is fingerless.

I really need to get more sleep at night but I have a feeling that things are getting bette in the near future.

  • MATCO#1

Bow to the queen Debbie has spoken.

The only thing on your page long rant that is true, is it will get settled in court.

  • Debbie Solko

EVERY thing on my long post is TRUE

( I and MANY others can document every word)

AND it will get settled in court.

……….no need to bow,, you may rise now

    applaud if you like! LOL

  • Well Todd I did know that Gilmore is now prewsident, but how old is the video you are speaking of????
    Thats what I was saying.

Guest, once you post on utube I do not think it ever gets removed. But thanks for the english lesson…..most go sell more tools now.

You know like the job youve never done and know nothing about.

  • Debbie on video you complain that Matco broke its contract with you about the 325 guaranteed forever, I have shown you in the document it is not written that way. So your major complaint on the video was already settled when you signed your franchise.

    Todd,

Sorry about the spelling errors, I wasnt so good in school.

  • Todd A. Peterson

Jay did you not listen to your NEW President?

    UNMATCHED SUPPORT!

    Working with Matco,
    Your in business for YOURSELF,
    NOt by YOURSELF!!

I think that is what TIM GILMORE said.

Didn’t he say that Veterans could take advantage of SPECIAL INCENTIVES!
Must not be an old video because I didn’t get any incentives and I am a VET.

Veterans out there PLEASE!!! do not fall victim to MATCO’s FALSE ADVERTISEMENTS!

You have fought hard and SERVED your Country and deserve better than the lies and deceit associated with Matco’s routes, Management and FALSE advertising.

  • Todd A. Peterson

You don’t have to be to sell tools.

  • Todd A. Peterson

That was not an ATTACK but to show others that Matco preys on those who persue success. Who want to be EMPOWERED.

Then there is the OBC who refuse to see the truth and deal with the fact that there might be a few thousands of terminated Distributors who have been man handled by a company that throws there ONE SIDED CONTRACT in your face.

  • Cary Devitt

    Todd A,

There you go again playing the Vet card. Friend I served my country as well, there were no incentives when I started and I turned out just fine.

Veterans my suggestion to you is research your potential investment and ask questions.

Dont hold to much stock in what Todd has to say, he did not succeed as a Matco Distributor, he is bitter and looking for someone to blame.

    Thank you

  • Todd, so you havent answered from when this video is from. Its been a while since Tim has been VP, hes been at hennesey for a while. I do have unmatched support in the tool industry, thank you very much and everything Matco has promised me has happened as it should. Lunch is over better get back to work….

  • Tommy Cheung

Matco lies, makes promise and has deceitfull practices and does nothing to help it’s distributors.

DO NOT BUY A FRANCHISE, ITS A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY, RUN AND DON’T LOOK BACK, I ALMOST LOST MY HALF MILLION DOLLAR HOUSE BECAUSE OF THOSE MORONS IN STOW.

  • Debbie Solko

Tim Gilmore’s video seems all the more insidious now that he has become President

I stand by my statement and am able to document EVERY word – regardless of what others may think

Todd, Vets DO receive an incentive –

“As Veteran’s Day approaches, we are reminded of the sacrifices made by our military personnel,” said Ernie Lauber, senior vice president of sales. “We want to extend our thanks with $5,000 of incentives when veterans join our franchise family.”

    from article at
    http://www.760kfmb.com
    dated Nov 11, 2011

I would research the exact date the incentive program began. If you did NOT receive that $5000 incentive – and the program was in place at the time you signed on, well – then you are OWED..

  • Tommy Cheung

Veterans, my suggestion is you run like hell and don’t look back, when matco tries to convince you into buying a franchise, check the termination numbers, check the complaints, check your return on investment, check the district managers background, see what other distributors think about him or her.

YOU WORK FOR MATCO, YOU DO NOT OWN YOUR OWN BUSINESS.THEY CAN SHUT YOU DOWN AT WILL. YOU MUST BUY AT NPA WHICH THEY USE A CERTAIN NUMBER OF PEOPLE TO DETERMINE THE NPA. NPA SHOULD NOT BE WHAT THE TOP 50 ARE DOING, IT SHOULD INCLUDE EVERYONE, THATS A PURCHASE AVERAGE.

IF YOU TRULY OWNED YOUR OWN BUSINESS, YOU WOULD NOT HAVE TO UPLOAD YOUR FIGURES, REPORT TO ANYONE, AND YOU COULD WORK THE HOURS YOU WANT AND NO ONE WOULD BE BITCHING

Obama: Veterans Need a Jobs Break

President Barack Obama today challenged businesses to hire 100,000 unemployed veterans and military spouses over the next two years, and proposed some tax breaks to help make that happen.

“You fought for us; now we’re fighting for you,” the president told military personnel and veterans assembled today at the Washington Navy Yard.

Employers should want veterans on their teams, because they’re “smart, tech-savvy, wired to serve and are great leaders,” said Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

But to give employers additional encouragement, Obama proposed the Returning Heroes Tax Credit, which would provide a tax break worth up to $4,800 for businesses that hire an unemployed veteran. The president also proposed doubling the size of the existing tax credit for employers who hire veterans with service-connected disabilities. He also pledged to streamline the certification process for claiming these tax credits.

The $5000 incentive Matco “gives” Vets is $5000 Retail price in tools, costing Matco a FRACTION of that!

Matco is given by the government $4800 in tax credits.

  • MATCO#1

For the record, if you are not at National Purchase Average….YOU are out of business you just don’t know it yet.

Seriously if you are not selling $4,000 a week…what are you doing?

Are you a professional greeter? Are you waiting for people to order…rather than you selling?

Former Lady Matco, is that what you do? Are you talking about your lawsuit and not selling tools?

  • MATCO#1

Tommy did you buy your $500,000 house when you were a Matco dbr?

  • Jay:

As you don’t seem to have a lot of technical experience, I’ll try to explain YouTube to you.

Matco Tools posts their videos to YouTube and they can easily pull videos that are not current or update them

Each of the YouTube videos show the date they were uploaded. So if you look, you can see it was uploaded a year ago.

As I stated, Matco can remove or replace their videos on YouTube at any time.

If you watch carefully, the Matco information video will likely disappear shortly.
Why? Because I am certain the Matco legal team monitors this thread. They will surely see that I have exposed the fact that they are selling franchises using an OUTRIGHT LIE that the US Dept. of Commerce stated that 90% of all franchises are successful and only 20% of independent businesses are successful.

The video is a smoking gun, with the current president making false representations and citing a non-existent study in order to sell franchises. Matco legal will certainly want to take this video off the Internet, but the damage is done. I’m sure Jerry’s team has made copies and taken screen shots by now.

Do you have any more questions about YouTube or the Internet in general. If so, please don’t hesitate to ask. Always glad to help the old dogs learn new tricks!

  • How can you document from your video what your FDD which you signed spells out???? How can you complain about a document which you signed??? I dont understand your truths which cannot be so due to the documents you signed.

  • Former WI Distributor

Matco 1 Im tired of your bull. Give me your true name and number so I can call and discuss. You seem to be home 24/7 so I think your just a wanna be on this discussion .
If not I know your just a fake as well as your props on here.

  • Guest, so where and when were you a dbr, because this site is for dbrs and not the general public right????

  • MATCO#1

Guest, you are a waste of time. You provide no factual data what so ever, you constantly tell lies. I am very confident Matco has little concern on what you post.

  • By the way guest, since you cannot count months video was posted 23 months ago, not 1 year…..remember facts….

  • Tommy Cheung

Hell no, you will never see that kind of money with matco. You have to work hard and earn it, just the way I did.

The only thing you see with matco is the back door, the way they treat employees.

  • Tommy Cheung

YES AND HE IS WELL WORTH IT, MATCO WILL BE PAYING HIM REAL SOON.

And when they do tool prices are going up,up,up.

Call snapon, they have already paid him well over six figures.

  • MATCO#1

Six figures, that’s pocket change for you.

  • MATCO#1

Negative attitudes dismantle teamwork, increase stress and cripple productivity. In the workplace, the big difference between the winners and the losers is often attitude. The salesperson who sells more, the manager who inspires her people, the manufacturing supervisor who sets the tone for everybody around them, are all good examples of what attitude does for you and everybody around you.

  • Cary Devitt

    Debbie

President Obama stated tax credits for employers hiring Vets…….hiring Vets???? Last time I checked Matco was not hiring distributors????? Maybe they were hiring in Stow.

If you are going to quote a statement maybe make sure it has ABSOLUTELY anything to do with the subject!

There are no posted credits for Matco from the government for Vets starting a franchise with Matco Tools. I would have loved to have had $5K in extra product when I started.

Here is your quote Debbs incase you dont want to scroll back:

“The $5000 incentive Matco “gives” Vets is $5000 Retail price in tools, costing Matco a FRACTION of that!

Matco is given by the government $4800 in tax credits.”

Go find another topic to try and twist up to make Matco look bad!

“If I were to come into your home with a pail of garbage and dump it on your living room floor, we would have problems—fast,” Ziglar writes in See You at the Top. “The person who dumps garbage into your mind will do you considerably more harm than the person who dumps garbage on your floor, because each load of mind garbage negatively impacts your possibilities and lowers your expectations.”

To offset the negativity and to stay motivated to reach our goals, continual affirmations and belief-building messages must be part of our daily routine. That’s why, in addition to practicing positive self-talk, Ziglar recommends listening to and reading motivational materials repeatedly and regularly. “You are what you are and where you are because of what’s gone into your mind,” he says. “You can change what you are, you can change where you are, by changing what goes into your mind.”

Quality customer service is your competitive edge. Everyone can have similar products or services, but what they can’t replicate is your people, how they treat your customers, and how your customers feel when they are doing business with you.

Steps to Build a Successful Business:
Associate with people who are successful
You can get many ideas and be motivated to utilize smarter methods when you associate with people who already have proven that it is possible to build a successful business. In addition, by being around people who are like-minded, you can withstand potential negativity expressed by family or friends.

  • MATCO#1

    Copy Ideas
Mimicking the ideas of experts is one of the best ways to go about achieving success in your business. You also need to study what strategies successful businesses have used to market their services or products. See what you can learn from them. Keep in mind that they have spent time testing their strategies, so, if feasible, adopt their successful marketing tactics.

Your competitors’ marketing newsletters are one of the best sources of learning from them. Attending seminars is also a good way to learn from experts. Apply their methods to your business and even to your life.

    Commit to Continue Learning
Always keep your eyes open for innovative ideas in a dynamic market. This is the reason seminars are so useful for keeping abreast with all the latest products and trends. An entire seminar can be well worth it if you can pick up even a single new idea. Once you do get a new idea that is viable, act on it immediately.

And finally, develop a spirit of entrepreneurship. Your business isn’t merely your source of income – it is your means for taking control of the kind of life you want for yourself.

Alright, ive been following this thread quite a bit. I have many opinions. Matco#1 was my old DM. And for anyone calling him out ill stick up for him. He was a very involved DM when i had him and believes in the company. Hell i remember when i was starting he helped my load my truck til almost midnight. He is very successful as so am I. I learned most of what i know about the business from him. I finished in the top 50 this year also. If you surround yourself with negativity you will never succeed. My route was ‘failed’ multiple times before me. ‘Doomed” never to succeed. You know how i turned it around? I worked my butt off, answered the phone at ten at night, dropped tools off on saturday….whatever it takes. Now if you dont like doing that maybe you shouldnt have signed up for being SELF EMPLOYED. Which means you can make it whatever you make it. But it doesnt mean working 4 days a week and wondering why your failing. If you cant hack more than 35 hrs a week maybe punching a clock and complaing about your life on facebook is more your style. If you complain about your route being small or no good. Im in a resort town in the middle of the desert with ZERO industry. The town is based on play money. So i dont even want to hear your sob story. If you dont like it maybe you should have researched your route more or drove around and checked it out. Matco gives you an opportunity. They arent going to hold your hand the whole way. If you cant hang i dont blame them for getting rid of the low producers. You dont keep your customers that pay twenty bucks every few weeks…no you try and move to the 100 a week every week guy. They are a business just the same as the rest of us.

Take Extra Care Of Your Existing Clients
Your existing clients are what keep your business running during lean times. You will need to take special care of them, since your competitors will no doubt have their eyes on your clients.

Entrepreneur Skills for a Successful Small Business
Anyone can be an entrepreneur. Alas, not everyone has the proper skills necessary to succeed as an entrepreneur. The right skills are certainly a plus, but just like an athlete, an entrepreneur can always learn and hone his or her skills to improve performance.

A small business owner new to the world business ownership may have many struggles ahead of them. A trial-by-fire and learn-as-you-go type of training is undesirable, but sometimes necessary. However, any new entrepreneur with the following skills will experience much less frustration and much more success.

    Communication Acumen

At the top of the list is communication. While this encompasses a broad scope, our belief is that for an entrepreneur to succeed, he or she must have that intangible “people skill” that makes an individual a magnet to others. Communication skills may include:

Storytelling – Telling an anecdote, joke, or simple story in such a way that encapsulates an audience.
Presentational – A highly effective entrepreneur will make strategic presentations that convince and influence.
Diplomacy – The art of diplomacy will result in a win-win situation in all types of situations.
Tact – This comes in handy when being a leader, a negotiator, boss, partner, and many more.
