We received the following franchise warning about the MATCO TOOLS franchise opportunity. According to commenter “TOMMY CHEUNG” :
“STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS. THEY WILL SELL YOU A BILL OF GOODS,WHICH IS NO GOOD.
“RUMOR HAS IT ,MATCO MAKES MORE MONEY SIGNING NEW FRANCHISES THAN THEY DO TAKING CARE OF THEIR CURRENT ONES.
“DARYL PRITCHETT AND MIKE RAMEY WORK TOGETHER TO SIGN YOU UP AND THEN KICK YOU TO THE CURB. I AM WORKING ON A LAWSUIT AGAINST MATCO, HOPING TO TURN IT INTO A CLASS ACTION SUIT. YOU MAY CONTACT JERRY MARKS AT MARKS AND KLEIN LAW FIRM AT [redacted], IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
“I INVESTED ALOT OF MONEY IN MATCO AND AFTER 3.5 YEARS THEY SHUT ME DOWN. WHEN THE ECONOMY SLOWED IN 2008,THEY PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS.
“I ALSO SPOKE TO A PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE, WHO CALLED ME, AND STATED THATS THE WAY MATCO DOES BUSINESS. STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS AND RUN LIKE HELL WHEN YOU SEE THEM. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY OR INVEST IN MATCO TOOLS…”
Marks & Klein is a legitimate franchise law firm that often represents franchisees in lawsuits against their franchisors, but we haven’t verified with them whether a lawsuit against Matco Tools is in the works or not.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? IS MATCO TOOLS A GOOD FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY, A FAIR FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY OR A FRANCHISE SCAM?

Todd, why would jason buy $50,000 worth of tools for $50,000 now, wouldn’t it be a better business decision to wait and have one of his customers buy it for $25,000?
Ernie yes, bud cook doesn’t stick out for some reason….several times.
i love my truck its right outside, i love my job its matco dbr,i love my wife, she loves me i love my matco tools, there the best. i love my dm he works for matco.
I am not suing Matco for just money. I am suing Matco because:
#1) Their Employee’s lied to me!. Not the ones who answer phones handling my account with Matco, PSA, Customer Service or Training. But to me the most important ones. The District Manager, the Regional Manager and the Vice President.
A) Robert Tolbert- I don’t think Robert Tolbert meant to lie to me! He was supposed to give me 325 customers to call on and he did. He just didn’t give me viable ones. I think this can be attributed to POOR training of DM’s.
B) Anthony Kramer- I don’t think Anthony Kramer wanted me out. Anthony knew what was right when I requested to call on shops on Moberly Lane. He just got the Tim Novak trump card. But he lied to me over it and to my wife in my house. The second lie would be telling me twice in 2009 he would resurvey (at my request) and didn’t. The third lie would be a false survey performed on July 26, 2010. A fourth lie would be three days later when he gave me 405 customers to call on he tried to convince me that I was not doing my job. A fifth lie would be telling me in November 2010 that I had cured, to forget the letter existed and he would warn me if there was a problem in the future.
C) Tim Novak- Biggest lie! Customer Support! He gave me NONE! He used a GREY contract and false business practices to strip my customers away from me using Mapquest, Google Map and MDBS. He told me I had done wrong to call on my shops that my DM approved. He gave shops to a DIstributor when that Distributor already had more customers than I did (Tim forced me to give them to him) and was not even doing business on that street overlapping THREE Distributors which Matco falsely advertises they don’t do. He spearheaded my Separation Letter knowing that I had MULTIPLE requests for a resurvey due to low head count. Tim said it best when he gave me my termination CALL on February 11, 2011 “I don’t care what you do YOU WON’T BE DOING IT FOR MATCO.” This was repeated by him three different times during the conversation. Tim had acheived his GOAL! He successfully terminated a Distributor by using Corporate bullying tactics. NOT by a FRANCHISEE failing his FRANCHISOR.
Ernie Lauber and Mike Swanson- Customer Support! NONE!!! I drove 14 hours to try and amicably dispute my termination letter. I told them of all the above happenings only to have them throw in my face a Document that would strip me of my rights to sue and put a gag in my mouth. Not to mention I had already tried to contact Ernie and discuss what I had told them twice before. When I received the Separation Letter which he did tell me then to talk to Tim but would not address any of my ISSUES. Then when I received the false survey he didn’t return a call addressing ISSUES. Mysteriously 3 days after that survey I get 405 customers. I was told by and given by Ernie his proof that made me a Failure. 26 days of missed work from 10/10 to 1/11 which is another lie and false information.
I can’t wait to go to court and PROVE what I KNOW to be the truth. I don’t think anyone can dispute the accurate and detailed information I have posted.
The OBC just gets on here and call you names!
They try just like Tom Gilmore does in the video above to promote and sell the Matco Franchise as an Opportunity to succeed!
In reality they are lying to you! Matco, in reality, is an OPPORTUNITY to fail. Lies, Deceit and Fraud are their bed partners.
All you Presidents,
With your FLASHY cars and BOAT,
Better run, run, run
Run from my Attorney.
Todd “A”
I was kind of hoping your queen was going to jump on and answer some of our questions. You are just a “former” I’m more interested in answers from a relevant person.
Sorry Todd “A” I know that hurts but either get back in that little truck and start slinging or shush your little mouth.
i cant believe you guys are still up ,i need my sleep, need my rest so can unload my truck to my custumers and repair anything thats needs fixin for my great custumers,oh yea cant wait til morning

full of cresent wrenches and pliers and bailin wire, waahoo
Hey brother in arms what did you think about Debbies twist on $4500 tax credits from Mr Obama for “Hiring” Vets as distributors……..”Hiring” Vets as distributors????? MATCO DOESNT HIRE DISTRIBUTORS
How about her comparing snapon wives law suit to matco franchise practices.
Man I would follow her into battle anyday?????
Good luck Todd “A” your going to need it
Oh no how many times do we get todds recycled life story??
Maybe admin will delete 8 or 9 of them?
MATCO#1 on January 5th, 2012 10:51 pm
Todd, I stock both….
That’s what I like about you matco-1, you sell both, probably violating the franchise agreement and Matco looks the other way… Real honest and straight shooting company there…
But when they choose to isolate on distributor for the same violation, thats ok with you too, cause they failed. I think your a failure but you just don’t want to admit it.
You are a hypocrite.
Fun conversation with a Mac Distributor today, they are now offering Franchise’s to their dealers. Hope they don’ find this site cause so much is in common….
Hold your butt cheeks tight, cause their COMIN’ IN !
Its becoming very comical about the franchisee end of the tool business.
As a MAC distributor, you can have as much as 25% of non – MAC product on the truck… How much is in the Matco FDD? 0%, unless you got written approval.
Wonder how much MAC will allow for a Franchisee?
I GOT 35 DAYS LEFT. You see you guys have no integrity I signed a contract with a No Compete clause for a year. Now your telling me to go back on my word. That would mean that the Franchise Contract is bullying Distributors when it shouldn’t. Kind of like saying that Matco is a good franchise for people who want to succeed. If I had over 465 routes available I would probably lie too.
i just love bein a MATCO MATCOMAN is just great to be a MATCOMAN ,come on todd lets sing it.MATCO MATCOMAN,its just great to be a MATCO MAN
Buy the way Matco #1, I had a $4300 day and didn’t sell a single Matco tool.
hey that stuff aint legal ask tommys friend the lawyer
Just look at the support management gives Matco. When the water gets rough what do they do?
All you Presidents,
With your FLASHY cars and BOAT,

Run from my Attorney.
Former why would you assume he didn’t buy the ir impacts from Matco??
Oh thats right you just want something to bitch about!!
boat what you talkin about its BOATS todd
Hey Former, love to hear the great days, not being smart ass either, love to hear success! Keep it up, what was moving in your area today? Do you think all the positive messages helped last night?
Actaully MATCO has a great price on the 2135TiMax, it was on the were the source, same price as outside no need to go.
Yeah, don’t really know how MAC got away with not being a franchise all these years, glad to see we are all on the same playing field now.
Todd….Willis didn’t retire because of you…don’t kid yourself.
Formr
Wow, u have mac dealers in your area…. ask them to send a couple to montana, some of my guys have some warranty issues, and send a couple of independants that sell SK. It really hurts me to tell my customers that SOL and they should have bought Matco. Kind of like your customers when you quit your hobby job…they will be SOL too!
I have to say do you people really think you are your own boss being a franchisee with these tool companies? I think these companies control what you do, where you do and how you do. To me that isn’t being your own boss. They put you in business and take you out like a bug. I am an independent tool dealer. I can choose my own stops, not have people tell me how much I need to buy, have to show up at meetings having people throw product on me, etc, etc. I invested around $30k cash out of my pocket without mortgaging my house or my child. I see numbers being thrown around what you people invested and I wonder… Was the kool aid being passed around on contract day? I do on average 5k a week with a 50% margin. That is 10k a month in profit. My business expenses are around $1000 including insurance, fuel, cc machine fees and reserve money for truck repairs. I make a little over a $100k a year in my pocket, going where I want, no franchise hassles, no debt, taking off anytime I want without loosing a minutes sleep only with a $30k investment. The best part is my supplier isn has conventions every year which they pay for my flight, hotel stay and even spending money. So I think you people need to look in mirror and stop trying to criticize these folks that were victims of franchise fraud. I think you are all victims. How many people in your organization make over $100k a year doing $5k a week with only $30k invested?
Guest17Why would you assume he did? Do you clean up after he poops in the floor? I bet you ate it once too, didn’t you?
One time I was talking to Tom, asked how the Porsche was doing…said he sold it to get a boat. I think I would have kept the Porsche but that’s just me.
One thing about Mr. Willis, he would walk around expo talking to all the DBR’s, DM’s, and suppliers, he was a class act!
Oh, Todd, really? Ate it?…really?
Hey I have decided I will buy every Fluke meter you have in stock…ha, ha, ha.
Good point Tool Man
How much do they pay the NHRA Sponsers? Where does all that money come from?
I don’t know Tool man, but I bet your customers really like the 50% margin.
But, more power to you, if you can make it on 5k a week, I am happy for you. Nothing wrong with that.
Todd, that money comes from the sale of Oakleys, beef jerkey, collectible cars, jittery joes coffee, and clothing, I believe when you went to training in Stow, John Torok came in the room and explained that.
I wonder if we can get Antron to say CHURN and BURN BABY! At the next EVENT!
2,000 Mac DBR’s in 1998. 2010, less than 500…hmm don’t think I will be switching companies.
ToolMan,
Matco is going to give away 200,000 in prizes at the great giveaway dinner bet ISN can’t beat that. lol
Todd I can call him and ask him if you want.
I don’t inflate any of my prices. I get an extra cash discount for my supplies which puts me around 50%. that doesn’t include the buy 1 get 1 frees. I saved up visa gift cards that were given to me in 2011 which came out too around $7k right now. So a little bonus… The kicker is vendors at my isn show that sell the same products to your companies with your logo say how you guys are getting ripped off because the mark up to the dealer. It’s criminal some of the figures I heard.
and tlman, don’t forget about the 4 free nights and free airfare to vegas, ceasers palace baby, then when it’s over we can run accross the street to the flamingo for the 2 day convention over there. I wonder how they got a convention room on such short notice.
Cary,
Matco left my customer hi and dri. They know the real story. They want warranty done too…. 18 months later they can’t get anyone to do it. AND they all have the DM’s phone number. He won’t respond anymore. Local Distributors won’t come over either…
But everyone of those customers have no problem replacing the non existent Matco product with my current line, why? Because they KNOW they bought from me and NOT matco. Matco did me wrong which translates to the customer.
I don’t know what kind of customers you fan boys have, but mine are pretty intelligent and know when they have been done wrong by a company like Matco.
Please, don’t respond to me…YOU know I failed. I just haven’ figured that out yet.
Tool man, what do you do for conracts though, what if I walk on your truck and say, hey ” i want to buy about 2,000 in tools, I am a new tech, need a cart and tools, do you carry or does ISN have financing for the tech?
Todd A Peterson,
That brother in arms post was directed to you, I really want to know your thoughts on Debbies posts…..
or are you to embarrassed to defend your “special” teammates???????
Boys I think I struck a nerve with Jason! He knows a lot about NHRA. He got defensive way to quickly.
Antron probably only gets to see successful distributors in the pits you know the OBC.
Probably just like Distributor rides Antron only gets to ride with the best.
Todd, the same reason you ASSUME his numbers are false. A dbr with a top 30 standing with Matco (get this Todd) buys a ton of tools from them!! Crazy logic I know Todd, now get back to making up poop jokes and tearing apart impacts.
Matco1, ISN show was giving away cars, green cash at other booths and tons of other giveaways. I landed last year $600 cash, $1500 in visa gift cards, free passes to any Disney park, tons of great deals, tons of free apparel and a free 4 day weekend getaway too… All that making over $100k a year with zero franchise hassles and truly being my own boss..
Former where you former MATCO or former MAC, now I am confused.
I have a ton of customers with broken MAC stuff, I need a guy too.
He Cary, did you check out the “loot tonight” bought myself a couple jacks, and 4 of those plier sets, I love those.
I didnt get defensive I just asked you a question. Antron doesnt do truck rides anymore.
Tool man, yeah that’s what I heard. The ISN show I heard was a lot like what MATCO’s used to be like, except for the money floating around. .
Matco1, I come across that at times. I have enough Capitol too finance anyone, if I want. But again I am my own boss and certainly not a bill collector. I am pretty straight toward with customers. I will hold some money on an acct. A tech maybe $300 or $500. The most a tech owes me right now is $1200. He pays $100 a week. Shops I will hold $2k the most. They generally pay $150 a week. I can lease shops on equipment and get paid a check in the mail in a few days withoutvany fees. I keep it straight with people. I am not a bank and that is why they make credit cards. I hardly get complaints.
Sorry Formr,
I cant resist. I’ll make it short and sweet, MATCO will be around long after you are gone. I will almost guarantee you it may be a young gun matco dealer that helps you pass into retirement. People are forgiving by nature I have seen it I was that young gun 13 sucessful years ago.
Tool Man,
For the record Isn and venders gave away over a million in cash on the show floor at the dinner they gave away 7 cars and other cool stuff. Yes I did say 1,000,000 in cash. Can you say NUCLEAR DEAL
Please don’t talk about the ISN show deals, I don’t want to run into these arrogant aholes at the show.
Besides, Matco may be watching a bit closer now that they know so many already attend that show.
Matco Disturbutors should know that ISN can help with contacts for legal issues if needed…
I’m still trying to figure out why SOME distributors can violate the franchise agreement and others can’t. MATCO DOES NOT PROVIDE A FAIR PLAYING FIELD.
Tool man, I guess I am just greedy, I don’t like loosing sales, I don’t like to carry a guy that high either, but I don’t want to loose the new tech to my competitors and most cant afford $200 a week on a truck account.
