We received the following franchise warning about the MATCO TOOLS franchise opportunity.  According to commenter “TOMMY CHEUNG” :

“RUMOR HAS IT ,MATCO MAKES MORE MONEY SIGNING NEW FRANCHISES THAN THEY DO TAKING CARE OF THEIR CURRENT ONES.

“DARYL PRITCHETT AND MIKE RAMEY WORK TOGETHER TO SIGN YOU UP AND THEN KICK YOU TO THE CURB. I AM WORKING ON A LAWSUIT AGAINST MATCO, HOPING TO TURN IT INTO A CLASS ACTION SUIT. YOU MAY CONTACT JERRY MARKS AT MARKS AND KLEIN LAW FIRM AT [redacted], IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.

“I INVESTED ALOT OF MONEY IN MATCO AND AFTER 3.5 YEARS THEY SHUT ME DOWN. WHEN THE ECONOMY SLOWED IN 2008,THEY PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS.

    In addition, sir, I would kindly ask YOU to read…………. I never made a post that indicated in any way “You saying it was ‘my’ fault”………

    In fact, all of my posts on this subject, clearly state MATCO did not deliver the tool box as ordered and Matco has failed to correct the situation.

    I am sure; from purely a CONSUMER’S point of view – you would agree the customer deserves to have the exact product for which he paid – delivered – exactly as he ordered. And, if there were ANY problems – the customer should rightfully expect the company from which he made the purchase – stand behind the product and make his purchase right.

    If the customer that purchased a $10,000 tool box was not comfortable with simply replacing a trim handle – well, that customer purchased a $10,000 tool box and DESERVES to have the error properly corrected.

    Accusing ME of ‘ignoring a simple fix’ or “making a big deal of nothing’ REALLY ISN’T THE ISSUE

    This toolbox had MULTIPLE ISSUES – too many to post here

    None the less – the CUSTOMER deserves to have the tool box he ordered – delivered to him EXACTLY as he wanted.

    I’m sure you are aware of body shop procedure to repair a vehicle panel – a door panel that has been damaged – must have the entire panel repaired and re- painted –

    In any case, WHY is Matco arguing with this customer??

    Why isn’t Matco just “making it right” for this customer??

    THIS IS CUSTOMER SERVICE, this is WHY my customer is happy he has me.

    I am standing up for my customer – despite Matco’s refusal to help, and despite the jeers of my “colleagues”

    So Matco stepping into this thread right about now would be the opportune moment. Silence shouldn’t be the answer.

    EVERYONE should be treated like a King/Queen regardless of the dollar amount… when you buy from Matco, customers expect quality service and the main office should back their distributors and make the wrongs right.

    thats what they teach in class. the best way to beat the competition is with the number one best customer service. it cant be done by the distributor alone. the original item did come from matco i do believe.
    there are alot of dms and rms that sure wont step up and help. i can give you some examples of that too.

    I was just reading through the FDD and ran across what you were speaking of about not being able to sell to shops or persons not on your original LOC.

    “You may not operate the distributorship or sell any products to any person, entity, or business, or at any location not identified on the potential customers list, even if such potential customer or location is adjacent to, or near, a location on your list of calls”

    Makes you wonder about why the ADD SHOP button is even on MDBS ? No wonder Matco churned my route. I actively sought out new customers every chance I got due to REAL SHORT head count on my LOC.

    there were alot of things that never made any sense but they do now.
    i had 2 different routes. neither route had the previous dbrs stops on them. most were new. i mentioned this to the rm, mike ramey, that it would be better if i had the previous guys loc as that was were the matco customers were. he said that made sense but nothing happened.
    i know part of the reason that i am gone because i didnt take all of their bs. i made a few waves and pissed some people off. thats okay, its not over yet.im still in the game just playing different.you can do alot of things to mst people and it will be okay. mess with their money and family and you have went too far.
    MATCO …… you have went too far. you cant undo the paper trail. i understand the need for documentation, the military taught me that. it also taught me that what you are told is not always the right answer. im not stupid. i was stupid to trust the administration of matco, but thats okay its going to turn around here real soon.
    all aboard…wwhooo wwhooo… its off to stow we go. you wont mess with me no mo.

    I think Debbie has some really good points. Has anyone ever experienced, heard or know anyone that left a tool truck where the company admitted fault in dealers failure? I never have andi been around over 5 years now. I can say there are people I know that failed because they hated the job or didn’t make much money considering the hours they worked. They all admitted it too. The company still was never ever wrong. I don’t know.. Sounds fishy…………………

    $10,000 toolbox and Customer was visited TODAY by DM Doug Herrsink

    Resolution – customer received another “promise”
    BUT this time the promise was IN PERSON

    I WILL post if/when customer gets right!

    I sell tools and ACTUALLY take care of my customers!!!! That’s all I do!! You should’ve done that!! And if you were successful you wouldn’t care about statistics that dont pertain to you!!     Yes, you are right , someone will be taking care of Debbies customer, for a short time, because they will be terminated also, thats how matco does business, tech’s get tired of distributors coming and going, so eventually the tool man or woman and matco wont have any customers to deal with.

    Selling tools is not all you do, is it? Don’t you also spend a TON of time on a website called “Unhappy Franchisee” where Matco franchisees and ex-franchisees share their complaints and push for improvements in the Matco system?

    Before you lie again and say you don’t spend a lot of time here, let me point out that I just did a search and you have made well OVER 100 COMMENTS on this page.

    Why do you care so much, guest17?

    Why does it bother you that “Jerry’s Kids” (as Americans and taxpayers) are exercising their 1st Amendment rights and speaking out?

    What are you afraid of?

    Don’t you think that Matco Tools can improve?

    Don’t you want Matco Tools to become more franchisee-friendly and lower its failure rate which is one of the highest in all of franchising?

    Don’t you think that people being recruited by the Matco franchise propaganda machine should be aware that many, many Matco dbrs fail and many, many are miserable and struggling?

    Don’t you think that returning US combat veterans should be told that many dbrs think they are being sold into a high-risk gamble dressed up as low-risk, can’t-lose opportunity designed to reward them for their service?

    Why are you trying so hard to silence or discredit people just because you don’t agree with them or haven’t experienced what they have?

    Would you be more comfortable in a communist regime or a dictatorship where only the official line is tolerated and dissenters must endure mistreatment in silence?

  • I left Matco after 6 years. My viable customer count wsa approx. 150. Another area that ran paralell to mine was open I asked, begged and pleaded for an adjustment so I could survive. This fell on deaf ears. In order for Matco to sell my area to they had to divide amongts 3 future dist. After my 1st Expo. I asked one question how does a dist generate a million dollars in sales like the top dist. that year, using Matcos 325 customer rule and using their percentages customers sold to, dollar average and collection rate, do the math it cannot be done.

Sad thing is her route won’t look the same at all. Matco will give the new Distributor more territory! Bet that NEW Distributor won’t have as much windshield time either.

    i have learned over the years that people who try to judge other people without the proper knowledge or first hand experience are usually a person that is quick to use someone elses inexperience or lack of knowledge to take advantage of them.
    you sir have no first hand knowledge or experience of anyone here. just because some one says something here does not mean that they didnt do all the steps and procedures here. you automatically assume that they did it all wrong and are not capable of doing it right. if all the obcs had the balls to try to help some of the little people instead of bashing them things might be better for some. no one is going to do that because then someone might get ahead of them aqnd make them look bad.
    most of what i have seen here in my 4 years is all about the individual. when things were tough all the other dbrs were just looking for a deal so they could help themselves. it wasnt helping me. like a bunch of wild dogs. there is no family here. its all about me me me. when was the last time that you went and helped a total stranger dbr for several hours for several times to help him with out any personal gain for yourself, probably not because according to your posts thats not the kind of person that you are. most of the dbrs that i know that do well cheat, lie to their customers and take advantage of them at any chance they can and justify it as doing business. its all good though. what goes around comes around just may be in a different way. KARMA, you will get some.
    so why did you quit selling shoes. who did you know at matco at the time.

    Caryboy is attacking everyone here, I feel left out, no slander about me last night.

    Where are your other boys, DON( JUNIEE) QUEEN, JASON NEAL, AND THE REST OF YOUR DEFENDERS?

    Tool business is changing, the district manager of my area can no longer survey, they send a rep out of Ohio to survey, whats up with this? Is matco accusing the district managers of doing wrong? Could he have been fasifying surveys?

    What does a district manager do now? Go around and be everyones boss, because you are controlled by matco.

    My post from a week ago is still on matco’s facebook, they haven;t removed my post yet. Whats the holdup?

    What part of being SELF employed do you not understand????? If you want family time go home and watch an episode of the Waltons.

    I chose to push thru the tough times to continue to do what I do and I have helped many distirbutors along the way.

    im not the one that pitches this to be a family thing, matco is. thats my point. they are only here till they can use you no longer. then its have a nice day. they act like you were never here.
    there is a new guy that just started my route. do you think that he will collect on my skips. i doubt it, one reason because matco has washed them out of the sustem so it wont be there. that way he can sell more tools instead of collecting what someone else sold and making the 25%. thats part of the matco plan.
    if you are doing well then you have alot of money out there on the streets. if you got sick or something happened to you then that money would be lost. they sure arent going to go and collect it for you . they will be too busy tring to put someone else in there to sell.
    when i started they told me not to worry about the previous dbr. i just happened to know the guy so i helped him collect some of his money. it might have hurt me some but i did what was right.
    matco does not do whats right and thats what all this is about but some of you dont understand.
    what is your customer count. i bet its over 325.

    you never did say why you quit selling shoes.
