We received the following franchise warning about the MATCO TOOLS franchise opportunity. According to commenter “TOMMY CHEUNG” :
“STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS. THEY WILL SELL YOU A BILL OF GOODS,WHICH IS NO GOOD.
“RUMOR HAS IT ,MATCO MAKES MORE MONEY SIGNING NEW FRANCHISES THAN THEY DO TAKING CARE OF THEIR CURRENT ONES.
“DARYL PRITCHETT AND MIKE RAMEY WORK TOGETHER TO SIGN YOU UP AND THEN KICK YOU TO THE CURB. I AM WORKING ON A LAWSUIT AGAINST MATCO, HOPING TO TURN IT INTO A CLASS ACTION SUIT. YOU MAY CONTACT JERRY MARKS AT MARKS AND KLEIN LAW FIRM AT [redacted], IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
“I INVESTED ALOT OF MONEY IN MATCO AND AFTER 3.5 YEARS THEY SHUT ME DOWN. WHEN THE ECONOMY SLOWED IN 2008,THEY PUT ME OUT OF BUSINESS.
“I ALSO SPOKE TO A PREVIOUS EXECUTIVE, WHO CALLED ME, AND STATED THATS THE WAY MATCO DOES BUSINESS. STAY AWAY FROM MATCO TOOLS AND RUN LIKE HELL WHEN YOU SEE THEM. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY OR INVEST IN MATCO TOOLS…”
Marks & Klein is a legitimate franchise law firm that often represents franchisees in lawsuits against their franchisors, but we haven’t verified with them whether a lawsuit against Matco Tools is in the works or not.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? IS MATCO TOOLS A GOOD FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY, A FAIR FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY OR A FRANCHISE SCAM?

**BREAKING NEWS*********1/30/12*******
Efforts are under way to merge the Snap On and Matco Associations as well as taking the cause INTERNATIONAL.
I’ve recently been contacted by distributors in Canada and the UK.
Stay tuned for information for the formation of the:
International Mobile Tool Distributors Association!
***************FACEBOOK CENSORSHIP********
Apparently the Matco Facebook page has created a bit of a stir…….
Matco virtually isolates it’s distributors from the realities of franchise ownership by denying them free communication with other distributors.
(Tom Willis told you, don’t join Distributor Association – just talk to Matco) ???
The authoritarian corporate officials attempt to muzzle the voices of those recounting experiences of mistreatment and termination.
Matco attempts to keep a chokehold on this information through fear, intimidation, and deleting any negative comments.
Why is Matco afraid?? What are they hiding??
Could it be they would rather potential distributors be kept in the dark about the 36% SBA Loan Failure rate?
Or the 49% FAILURE rate – according to their OWN franchise documents?
Or the allegations of Distributor Churning?
Or the accounts of Inflated Customer counts??
Or the illegal requirement to purchase 80% of the NPA?
Or the repeated and routine sale of known NON VIABLE route??
Or the un- compensated labor they will be required to perform?
Or the FACT a recruiting video LIED??
Or the FACT Matco violates FTC law by advertising Franchises as Jobs???
Or the FACT Matco lures Veterans in and churns them just the same??
………….shall I go on??????????
Damn right Matco is afraid, Damn right Matco is hiding something!!!!
Richard, we all got them pissed off, watch tonite I will be posting more info on there, stay tune, they will not shut me up, there are many other ways to get to them.
…………In addition…….. Matco MAY be able to Block my comments, and Richard’s, and Tommy’s
**********BUT WE HAVE FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!! Please ask every friend you have of FB post ONE comment on Matco’s page
*********In addition, ask that friend to pass the word and have them ask one friend
AND SO ON……………..
May I suggest, your post on Matco’s FB page should read:
Matco distributors work VERY hard for their customers and sincerely appreciate their business! Matco distributors seek the same respect from Matco Tools so that they can continue to provide service to those customers.

I understand this is Matco Tools ‘customer page’
HOWEVER; Matco needs to be treating their DISTRIBUTORS BETTER. If they don’t like being called out in front of their customers………. then they need to STEP UP and treat their distributors RIGHT

Please go to that page and POST before all NEGATIVE comments are censored
and buried

The International Mobile Tool Distributors Association is a very interesting concept, MATCO WILL NEVER ALLOW IT, however I understand Jim Lager was heading up the Snap On association and that Jason Niel and Matco17 or Cary Devitt (do not recall which) were very interested in joining at the time…
So does that mean?…oh my word!!…This cant be true!!…Does that mean they are NOW joining you??
OH… the irony
so matco kicked me off of their page. i can see but not post. now they are showing up on my page with comments but i cant post on them either. its okay matco, yall have always been onesided so why change now.
Hey Richard,
Kind of funny about Facebook page. We don’t have Franchises anymore and Matco still CONTROLS US!!!!
You, myself is there anyone else who is being DISCRIMINATED against just because they don’t agree with the likes of Matco.
I don’t see Matco removing CUSTOMER comments when they talk negative about “Why can’t I have a DISTRIBUTOR in my SHOP”?
I don’t see peoples comments being removed for saying stuff like Snap-On is better.
Matco really does suck.
I lost alot of money with them bastards.
Checkout my facebook posts people, they haven;t be removed.
matco lies
they will be gone by morning and you wont be able to post anymore. its okay, just the way they play their game.
tommy,
they should have removed jasons comments too. whats the point if no one knows what is being said on both sides.
matco
can you hear me now. i do believe that we have their full undivided attention now. its just a matter of time till we see the results. im sure all those corporate lawyers are scrambling to see what they can cover up. you cant cover up what you dont have. i wonder how much recorded conversations will be altered or lost. you folks started this mess taking advantage of peoples lives and money just to better yourselves. i wonder who is going to sell out who to save themselves. it will be interesting. new theme song being played at stow hq. bad boys , bad boys, who you going to trust when they come for you, bad boys bad boys, let me make a deal for you, bad boys bad boys
the clock is ticking, tic toc tic toc
Organized,,,,,,,,,, I don’t think Matco has anything to say about it.
If I want to form an INTERNATIONAL MOBIL TOOL DISTRIBUTORS ASSOCIATION
damn it, I will…………
Jim and I were talking about merging the two associations, actually forming ONE association to cover ANY mobile company
However; after I spoke with distributors in Canada and the UK – INTERNATIONAL
SOUNDS NEEDED
Matco can try and STOP me – but, they can’t even keep me quiet here…………
On Matco’s Facebook page tonight..
David Blankenship
If you really want to know what consumers think about tools, go to http://www.garagejournal.com & visit the forums. Be prepared, it won’t be nice. One of the biggest complaints is non-USA products.
Funny you mention Garage Journal Deb, Just clipped this nugget from there. Attention Matco…………Our customers are not dumb, you just think they are.
” I think Matco is the biggest rip in the tool world and in the mobile tool world for sure. They take stuff you can buy at any parts house or sears, mark it up….no wayyyyy up and hope people are not smart enough to figure them out. They are higher than SO on alot of stuff. I like their boxes but in my opinion the rest of their line is a joke just rebaged everything at 3 times the price. “
Debbie
Excellent idea since MDAC is a total and complete failure…Every single MDAC rep (5-6) from our district worked his a$$ off for the MDAC program and every one of them quit in disgust calling it a complete waste of time.
When ever Matco approved fixing an issue, it was always small and almost inconsequential and never cost Matco a dime…HOWEVER Matco ALWAYS made an overly grandiose announcement for each and every small issue they fixed…
Gary, customers are NOT dumb…………. and Matco continues to treat them as badly as they do their distributors………..
tonight on

Jim Thurman As a Matco customer, I will think twice about who I spend my money with. There are lots of great tool companies out there, and I have always been loyal to Matco. Maybe its time to change my thought process.
Matco really needs to STEP UP and take care
Organized………… EXACTLY
When i started the matco tools distributor association Matco stomped around, pounded their chests and proclaimed —— we have MDAC!
BUT, sooooo many former MDAC reps came forward and told me exactly how little MDAC actually accomplished ……… translation, MDAC is meaningless
………….. OK, the deal is THIS
The long ago, original goal of forming a Distributor’s Association to enable communication, support, and networking with other distributors is a faded hope.
The REALITY, when distributors discovered they could actually communicate and reach out to OTHER DISTRIBUTORS – they SPOKE OUT, they shared their stories, they found they were NOT alone.
The REALITY, hundreds of distributors have been mis-lead, lied to, been the victims of franchise fraud………………THEY did NOT fail, MATCO FAILED THEM
The REALITY, the lies have been exposed, and the truth is out
No longer can Matco claim, “a lone disgruntled distributor” ,,,,,,,, nothing LONE any more
HUNDREDS OF UNHAPPY FRANCHISEES
HUNDREDS OF LAW SUITS
Found this article while researching WHY Franchisors want only in house dealer or franchisee associations (MDAC)…
What’s wrong with franchising in 2012? A paradoxical question; the whole of the franchising community is neither entirely flawed nor without blemish. Perhaps I would invoke the words of Charles Dickens and assert that franchising is experiencing “the best of times and the worst of times.”
The franchising community continues to spawn successful new concepts and to help build powerful industries. When franchising works as advertised it continues to create exciting wealth opportunities for franchisors and franchisees. At the same time, the incidence of franchise failures continues at an alarming rate, and profitability issues often plague perceived ‘blue chip’ opportunities (as well as start-ups and fly-by-nights) such as Quiznos, Cold Stone, and UPS Stores.
Perhaps the greatest challenge for the franchising community is a serious lack of franchise systems that are able to attract truly quality franchisee prospects. I attribute this situation directly to a lack of franchise offerings that have been engineered to attract sophisticated quality prospects.
Happily, we are beginning to see a growing number of effective franchisee associations and a nascent community of franchisors who embrace collaborative franchise cultures—franchise systems that have embraced independent owners associations, negotiated agreements and shared vestment for the common good of the franchisor and the franchisees.
Unfortunately, there are many more autocratic franchise systems that enforce one sided franchise agreements that disrespect franchisee rights and interests, or that otherwise disdain meaningful collaboration and sharing of the fruits of the franchise system’s fortunes. Not surprisingly, such systems are finding it increasingly difficult to attract ‘A’ list prospects.
The question should not be whether there is something wrong or right with franchising, but how to identify and promote that which is excellent, and eschew that which fails to deliver a quality investment. The goal of the AAFD has been to define our vision of Total Quality Franchising practices, and to offer accreditation to companies that meet the AAFD Fair Franchising Standards.
For the first time, franchise investors can identify a score of franchise systems that have passed rigorous review and received approval from their franchisee populations. Unfortunately there are hundreds of franchise systems that continue to pose a significant risk to investors—in part because the business model may either be flawed or subject to a fickle marketplace, and in part because the franchise agreement affords the franchisee few rights to protect the franchisee’s interests with things go wrong.
Or said another way, we now have a process, a tool, to evaluate what is right and wrong in franchising, and how to reward what works and avoid what does not. Over the course of this year, I (and other agents of the AAFD) will be profiling some of the most significant issues facing franchise owners and the franchise community as a whole. Our purpose is to show a better way, and help existing and prospective franchise owners achieve our vision of Total Quality Franchising.

I just sent my complaint to the AAFD.
Jason, where are you this morning, geez, does matco have your tongue under control?
Jason, come out and play, matco wont mind, or did they threatened you with your franchise?
Just information that you can buy matco tools at sears. I found this info on a danaher website, while researching.
Sears, Roebuck & Co. selected Danaher as its only source for the manufacture of the Craftsman brand of mechanic’s hand tools.
Just news worthy and to show you matco lies from day 1,
kw123 I use to be a matco distributor from 2002 to 2003 and I was lied to from day 1 buy my district manager and company support was a joke.manager are paid to lie to you from the very beginning because these routes are very hard to fill.I know 3 distributors(matco)that have gone out of business in the last 3 years(all from the buffalo/rochester ny area)and one disttrict manager and all of them are currently sueing matco for constantly being lied to and unable to write contract.our economy is terrible and starting a tool franchise today is crazy.
Seems Jason Neil has taken up the fight on Matco FB page now. He is really busy with his BlackBerry!

The AAFD strongly believes that there should be an owners’ association in each franchise system. Whether you do it though the AAFD or independently, we hope that you will consider forming such an association.

any wagers on ‘when’ Rick’s comment will be removed??
Jason Neil Dont plan on it John, I tell the truth about Tommy, his friends on the site are the ones that prefer to call names. The problem with MATCO is, it’s too easy for people to come into business, then when they don’t succeed its always matco’s fault.

GEEZ, JASON ARE YOU SCARED TO POST HERE? WHAT THE HELL, MATCO CONTROLS YOUR EVERY MOVE , INCLUDING WHEN YOU CAN TAKE A S_IT.
Jason, looks like you onlt been on your truck for about 2 years, when matco fails you, give us a call.
I found an article and I believe NAPA is going to carry and have matco produce their tools and NAPA will sell matco, I will read a little more and produce the article later.
The last time I looked at NAPA branded ratchets, they were unmistakably made by Danaher. They have some lower priced ratchets (can’t remember their 2nd and 3rd tier brands) that are made in China; it’s possible these are also made in by Danaher at their Chinese production facility. And last, but not least, they carried GearWrench branded ratchets, yet another Danaher brand. This connection goes back many decades.
NAPA has two levels of tools, NAPA Professional Hand Tools and the lower priced Evercraft. NAPA professional Hand Tools were made by Danaher and were a sightly different version cosmetically from their Craftsman, Allen, K-D, or Armstrong relatives. They are a little pricey compared to their relatives but, they’re good tools. However with the recent demise of the hand tool portion of K-D tools, Napa professional Hand Tools are becoming Gearwrench clones. The name is different on the tool but, you can browse through the current real deals flyer or the store and see the similarities. Yes, they are imported from Tawan or the PRC depending on the tool. I look for Craftsman, Allen, and other Danaher/Apex brands to move to being China brands too sadly.
Evercraft tools are the supposedly lower priced line that have always been Taiwan/PRC made. Evercraft is probably better than Harbor Freight and equal to say Powerbilt or Duralast and parts stores house tool brands.
If you can find used US made NAPA professional hand tools at a decent price, I would pick them up. They will serve you well but, just remember that they’re basically better finished Craftsman tools so, don’t spend a lot of money.
Don’t sweat about having posts removed from Matco’s FB page. It seems that techs all across the land know what is going on BEHIND the curtain ! I think we will be seeing MORE & MORE of these quotes in the future.
“We need a rep in Iowa city iowa again!”
“Were can I find a dealer? I need to get a few new tools and I dont see a dealer finder on your website.”
“How do I inquire on the location of a representative in the Philadelphia, MS area?”
“I work at Highway Diesel Services in Tucson Arizona, and we need a Matco dealer in our shop, numerous calls to the district manager has falling on deaf ears”
“I Work At Regency Tire & Auto and We need A Matco Man To Come By We Haven’t Seen One For About 3 Or 4 Years Please Send One By Thanks”
“I work at a shop in RACINE WI and can never get a matco tools truck to stop in, i am not the only one that has tried, i am just curious is there a matco dealer around the Wisconsin area? or what is it going to take to get one to come around?”
“I need a dealer in Lafayette LA!!”
“I wish we had a Matco Distributor in the Louisville, KY area!!! Hard to buy their tools if you can’t find someone that sells them!! I keep getting the run around about finding a distributor. Can anybody help me with this?”
“I am a contractor, too busy to be a distributor. SNAP ON is looking better all the time. I see their trucks everywhere!!!!! I use to see Matco trucks everywhere!!!!!”
“Who is the Matco tools distributor for Manassas Virginia?”
and one savvy customer who can REALLY see through the smoke and mirrors…….
