(UnhappyFranchisee.com) Is the STRATUS BUILDING SOLUTIONS Franchise a scam? At UnhappyFranchisee.com, we’ve received a number of Stratus Building Solutions franchise complaints.
Strangely, Stratus Building Solutions is ranked #20 in Entrepreneur magazine’s Franchise 500 (READ: Top 100 Franchise Opportunities 2011: Behind The Hype)
In fact, when Unhappy Franchisee asked for commercial cleaning franchise complaints, half of the negative comments were against Stratus Building Solutions franchise opportunity.
Why are some franchise owners calling Stratus Building Solutions franchise a big scam? The complaints are the same as those levelled against Jani-King, Jan-Pro, Coverall, Cleannet USA and the other commercial cleaning franchise companies out there: Underbidding accounts, fraudulently taking cleaning accounts from one franchisee to give to another, etc. etc.
The question remains: Why are these janitorial franchise companies allowed to get away with these despicable practices?

Please help me stop Stratus of pittsburg and Stratus corporate from swindleing any one. The solution to me is to go clean places on your own. By the way, if you do get your own places to clean while you are with stratus, you still have to pay percentage.

Complaint Description Consumer alleges services were misrepresented and no refund has been issued. Consumer purchaser a franchise from your company on 7/14/09 and paid $22000.00. He was promised to have his own business, his own building to provide the janitorial service that will pay $120000.00 a year. To date he has made $17000.00 in one year. He is not running his own company, instead he is introduce to clients as if he was working for your company. He had to pay 25% fee from each check for insurance, processing fees etc. When consumer complains to your company and ask for a refund of the money he invested you refuse. Consumer wants a refund of the $22000.00 he paid because the franchise was not as represented.”

“Posted 4/21/2011 Summary – Consumer states company failed to provide proper services.
Complaint Description Consumer states company failed to provide proper services. Consumer paid $14,500 to the company. The company stated they would assist her in getting contracts with franchises, to clean their facilities. A list of potential leads would be provided to her. The lists they provided are not valid. When she requested a refund, she only received the runaround.”

What bothers me the most is that with all the cleaning companies out there, they all repeat the same deceptive, abusive, misleading and unethical practices. They prey on the average american who wants to legally make money and work hard doing it. Often people have invested their life savings into the hope of making a better way for their families. It is unbelievable how the state and federal government aren’t doing anything after years of complaints and law suits to protect people from these modern day ponzi schemes.
I invested my money into Stratus Building Solutions to later find out that im not a owner of my own business but merely a employee, i paid $11000 to work a job. The gross revenues arent guranteed, they underbid contracts just to build their portfolio. Some of the jobs break down to be less than minimum wage. A business is meant to grow, not keep you stuck in one place where you have to do all the work to get by. If you speak against their actions they totally cut you off, no contact, even when they still owe you money.

STRATUS BUILDING SOLUTIONS: Goldeneye Holdings Franchise Lawsuit
The lawsuit against Stratus Building Solutions master franchisee Goldeneye Holdings Inc. alleges that the company blatantly scammed Spanish-speaking franchisees by promoting the franchise in Spanish language publications, conducting the sales presentations in Spanish, then coercing them to sign English franchise agreements they could not read.
After the franchisees had signed and paid for their guaranteed work, the lawsuit alleges that none of them ever received the cleaning accounts they were promised – and paid for.

Stratus Indy is getting ready to change names. They have several lawsuits pending. They have not dealt honestly with anyone, in fact, because of their bad business practices, they have put one franchise out of business, and ripped him off for nearly $90,000.00+. Because of this bad deal they sent the franchise on, out of state, to wax floors for Dollar General floors, (no signed contract for this, a bogus contact met online through “Linked In”), they have lost their house, their building for business and vehicles. Stratus Indy has offered no help, no solution, and has now revoked the franchise, and even charges the ex-franchise fees, and chargebacks on this bogus job they went and completed (52 stores). These guys are liars and cheats. This is all boiling to a head. Stratus Indy is not honest.
I love it when lies are told and can easily be varified by independent parties.
1) There are two lawsuits currently in place with Shamrock/Stratus Indy. One is against it as talked about on the other post that has already been documented/explained. The other is where Shamrock/Stratus Indy has sued the following: USM/Joanne Fabrics/Dollar General/Dunhams Sporting Goods/Toys R Us and Babies R Us and others.
2) Owner-Operator discussed has not only known about the issue, he has been given approx. 50k even though not one cent has been collected to date from USM/Joanne Fabrics/Dollar General/Dunhams Sporting Goods/Toys R Us and Babies R Us and others.
3) Owner-Operator has been party too, supplied documentation including pictures, met with Stratus/Shamrock Attorneys and is very much in the loop both verbally and in writing as to status of the case.
4) He is still an Owner-Operator and will continue to be as long as he wants to be. By the way, he put $1,000.00 cash down, signed note for $2,000.00 and has billed north of $138,000.00 since he has been part of the Stratus Family.
These are the facts, these items listed above were/are the truth. In regards to the USM/Joanne Fabrics/Toys R Us/Babies R Us/Dunhams/Dollar General lawsuit, Stratus/Shamrock is paying for the attorney’s fees and is pursuing this heavily in State Court of Indiana in an attempt to not only make owner-operator hole but to show the lack of Quality Company that USM is by them allowing literally anyone to have access to their customers without proper background checks, without knowing quality of performance, without basic security procedure review etc.
So Anonymous, aka former disgruntled/terminated/embarrassed employee that cussed out two customers causing him to lose his job. Let me know what else you’d like to say/spew and I will be more than happy to counter with facts!
And I am still waiting for the administrator to contact his old friend Fortman and post as quickly as he did the amended complaint the courts findings in this amended complaint……Two days and counting since my request, 8 days and counting since document was filed by the Judge and sent/given to all parties.
My Stratus Franchisor just offered me a new job.
I would pay $ 1000.00 to obtain this account and I would make (gross) $11.21 per hour.
He makes the $1000.00 in fulfilling the account plus another $1200.00 per year.
I have found that Stratus Franchisors are more interested in signing up poor unsuspecting people and fulfilling account requirements with accounts that will pay near poverty level incomes.
My Franchisor says that He can’t charge more and be competitive. I cannot afford to fix my equipment when it breaks down much less afford the gasoline for travel to my accounts.
This is not what I signed up for.

It’s also not clear why Shamrock/Stratus Indy has sued USM/Joanne Fabrics/Dollar General/Dunhams Sporting Goods/Toys R Us and Babies R Us and others. Feel free to share that story with a clear overview, and provide the lawsuit complaint to that as well.

Stratus Building Solutions aka Shamrock Services aka Hefty bag, is not giving the whole story. They promised to charge less for the franchise in fees for out of state services, then renigged and added 10 percent. The franchise they ripped for $90 K has had their franchise revoked, and Stratus does not return phone calls. The franchise is due $11k on the 29th of this month. Stratus will likely rip them off further in deductions and delays, claiming they haven’t been paid yet, while providing no pay statement, or at least, an accurate one. Cases from all over the country can’t be bogus. Besides, Hefty bag describes himself correctly: a place to hold trash. While disgruntled employees are common, an employee is illegally discharged, no warning, no evidence of wrongdoing. In fact, unemployment for said digruntled employee found no evidence to support trash bags claims. Just as the Franchise in the class action suite, disgruntled was stiffed for money’s owed, then Stratus claimed, you owe us. Typical of them. Good job Trash Bag.

Bob, I am truly a Hefty Bag as I do haul out the trash that you, Overhauser, Jack and others are spewing and posting all over the web. I am truly sorry that Overhauser/Jack have taken advantage of you, just like they have/are taking advantage of the Plaintiffs in this case.
1st- Don’t know what the promised you, but here are the facts, they couldn’t represent you even if you had a legitimate case/cause of action for wrongful termination because you don’t. Don’t believe a word that I say on this subject, simply check it out on your own.
2nd- What you are doing/have done, will simply continue to be your own undoing, hurting the innocent and obviously hurting what you supposidly believe as your “god”. Let me remind you that YOU are the one that caused an owner-operator to lose one contract and quite frankly cause one of your “gifted” or “project” adults to lose their Day Porter job.
3rd- You have already lost one filing in regards to unemployment, you are going to lose a 2nd/3rd attempt soon as well. As far as proof, the State of Indiana has copies of emails sent to you about your faults/issues and Ben gave them a statement as well.
4th- Overhauser/Jack are having issues of their own, I am personally very close to confirming the person that translated the false statements, once I confirm, she will be served and brought to deposition as she should be. Plaintiffs will then be forced to sign affadavits and/or testify and open themselves up for perjury issues. Problem with Plaintiffs is they cannot testify, they know the reasons why.
I think it is funny how you are stating lies and trying to pass them on for truths. Obviously, your ex-wives weren’t wrong for throwing you to the corner as you thought.

Stratus in St. Louis, i found out if they don’t like you, you cant make any money they will take your business away, and lie and that the company sent an email saying the cleaning was not good. When you tell them that you asked the client about the email, Stratus will lie and there is no name on the email. They are no good. I referred someone to them they told that the person did not get into the company that was a lie the person now have 9 buildings. They are prejuice, and underhand, One Ops manager told someone they cant have any more business over $500. you cant have anything unless it comes through him first. We paid into this to make money not to stay at this leve. Stratus aint SHIT

With the illusion of opening my own business with life savings I decided to purchase a franchise through “Stratus Building Solutions” since day one this became a scam!!!
First of all the regional manager is so unprofessional and inconsiderate. They basically have an excuse for how they stole my money, there contract is basically against you in all ways possibly. I have evidence and others on how they can destroy your ambition to become and meet your dreams of having your own business.
I just need you to know that there work ethic is a lie, that you pretty much don’t own your business like your told that they can take way accounts if they please. And that no matter what you do and how you try to contact to complain too, there nobody’s out there to help, there nobody to give you hope!!! It’s sad what they do to you, what they promise!!!

Stratus has lied, decieved and misled anyone that walked in their doors to purchase a franchise from them.
It is important for people to speak out and let anyone they can know, what this company has done and will do to unsuspecting people who want to live the American dream. They same way Stratus wanted to be ” their own boss” and build a brand, so did I. I wanted to do it by working hard, being honest and providing a great service, much how I THOUGHT Stratus modeled itself by.
Unfortunately, I was taken advantage of too. All the money I saved to invest in what I thought was the ideal business turned out to be a living nightmare. I gave them $11k cash, the accounts I had were taken away, they cut me off for speaking out and I have nothing to show for my time and effort. I’m currently unemployed and not entitled to unemployment because I was so called “SELF EMPLOYED”
The good thing is, the word is getting out about this cleaning company and so many more, that people like me have worked for. Your not your own boss, you are an employee, working for what breaks down to be minumum wage in some cases, you did PAY for a job and you have no rights.
Hopefully this cycle is soon coming to an end!

I lost my home, my car, and the respect of my kids when my kids father, Sam Valdez, Operations Manager of Stratus in Encino,Ca basically made it seem like I had numerous complaints and it made me so hurt to know that he had a hand in taking away my accounts.
I lived in Inglewood,Ca and drove to Calabasis,Ca every night at 10pm and wouldnt make it home until 4am…. leaving my kids at home with there dad made it even more perfect but the whole time all he was doing was setting me up to lose everything.
When i fell at work i couldnt breath about a week after the fall … the procedure is to call you Operations Manager and he gets a person to fill in for you at the expense coming out of your check… basically he never called anyone to fill in for me to clean my building so I lost my building. My second building was taken shortly after because I was told the drive was too far of a commute for me… WHATEVER….
I was then given another building 4 months after and it had financially screwed me even more and i was homeless at this time now.
ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT I KNEW THIS COMPANY WAS GOING TO GET CAUGHT SOONER OR LATER…THEY HIRE FELONS LIKE SAM VALDEZ TO CLEAN UP THE DIRTY MESSES AND TO BULLSHIT PEOPLE RIGHT OUT OF THERE MONIES…EVEN THE MOTHER OF HIS KIDS.

Yo inverti como 15,000 dolares, el modo de operar es: te dan tu cuenta y despues ellos mismos mandan a su gente y dicen que el cliente se esta quejando por el mal trabajo que estas haciendo, finalmente te quitan la cuenta y luego se la dan a otro que lo tienen en espera y al final pierdes tu inversion.

Cuando uno llega a por informacion le bajan a uno el cielo y las estrellas. I have owned a franchise in Tampa for over 4 years, with many friends owning as well. We have been nothing but happy with Jeff and Jorge. Please consider who you are dealing with and how they treat you. In any business there are bad seeds. But I wouldn’t group all into this. I want to continue to grow my franchise and don’t like to see all this bad mouthing when not every hamburger from Micky D’s isn’t the same. Some have even made me sick, does that mean it is the fault of the franchise?
I agree. Why are all these people slamming Stratus. I have had nothing but good experiences with Stratus. This is a bunch of trash. I hope that Stratus Corporate slam dunks the bogus lawsuit by the ambulance chaser johnny fortman. What a scum bag he must be to continue after several failed attempts.

I believe that they “Stratus” has beat fortman in city and state court. So from what my master tells me they will beat him again this 3rd time. The master that I deal with told me about the two prior attempts and this 3rd try. I was an a paralegal at a local law firm before I purchased a franchise and saw many frivolous lawsuits and seems like this is another example of someone looking for a big $$ win with not much to back it up. I know James and he owns in the same territory as me.

Stratus bldg solutions in NJ is a big scam too!!!. I share the same feelings and horrible experiences like the others. I never will recommend to anyone because it is a dishonest company that they get your dreams off. This is not the way to do business. I’m not talking about money only, is about the way how they steal you. I hope they can pay everything because when you do wrong, you end wrong. Per a confidential source, Tom Weiss and John Coleman have split!!!!! One has kept Philadelphia the other took over Delaware and part of NJ. Seems that they both accused the other of FRAUD AND EMBEZZLEMENT!!!!!!!! Talk about the Pot calling the Kettle Black!
