We put together the initial Dickey’s location list by compiling from publicly available online sources (such as Yelp, Facebook, and local news outlets), Dickey’s Franchise Disclosure Documents (FDDs), analysis and tracking of the location page on the Dickeys.com website, and input from Dickey’s franchise owners and former owners.

We analyzed four company-prepared Dickey’s Franchise Disclosure Documents (from the years 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2017).
We found that in the 11-year span:

50% of the system has been closed on sold to another owner. If you open a Dickey’s you have a 50% chance to stay in business. Don’t do it.
Mechanicsburg, PA Dickey’s looks to have been churned. Their Facebook page says they are reopening with a date to be announced “soon”.

Store count is roughly in the low 530 range going off numbers that are made publically available in places I wil not name so that the loophole does not go away.
I will note, however, that the website does not show ALL stores when it maxes out and the “load more” button goes away. Also, stores that have churned do not seem to be re-added to the website for a few months. (To me, they do a great disservice to the new franchisee by not listing them on the site, but that is how Dickey’s has always run their company: at a great disservice to the franchisee).

Oh man, this kind of sucks. Help me out here. I’m a little confused. As a lover of Dickey’s, does this mean my favorite BBQ joint is going to up and split? I sure hope that’s not the writing on the wall that I see.

Unfortunately you are not alone. The Dickey’s food is is very good, but the Dickey’s brand is poorly managed and run by inept people who change week by week. (I hesitate to use brand because they really don’t have a brand, they THINK they do)
Anyhow, it seems as though they are now at 510 stores, a far cry from the 600 they claimed a year ago (https://www.delawareonline.com/story/life/food/2017/10/02/dickeys-barbecue-pit-opening-its-first-del-location/713817001/) and even as recently as April 2018 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6egnlh8qoDI) even though they never even made it close to 600 (https://www.restaurantbusinessonline.com/financing/dickeys-barbecue-closes-113-units-franchisees-bolt)
Dickeys in New Berlin WI and Glendale WI closed sometime in 2018.
All Milwaukee stores are now closed in Wisconsin
All 3 Tri cities locations have closed.

I sold the operations of locations in Lebanon, MO & Fort Leonard Wood, MO in 2019.
