Marks & Klein is a legitimate franchise law firm that often represents franchisees in lawsuits against their franchisors, but we haven’t verified with them whether a lawsuit against Matco Tools is in the works or not.

Alright, ive been following this thread quite a bit. I have many opinions. Matco#1 was my old DM. And for anyone calling him out ill stick up for him. He was a very involved DM when i had him and believes in the company. Hell i remember when i was starting he helped my load my truck til almost midnight. He is very successful as so am I. I learned most of what i know about the business from him. I finished in the top 50 this year also. If you surround yourself with negativity you will never succeed. My route was 'failed' multiple times before me. 'Doomed" never to succeed. You know how i turned it around? I worked my butt off, answered the phone at ten at night, dropped tools off on saturday....whatever it takes. Now if you dont like doing that maybe you shouldnt have signed up for being SELF EMPLOYED. Which means you can make it whatever you make it. But it doesnt mean working 4 days a week and wondering why your failing. If you cant hack more than 35 hrs a week maybe punching a clock and complaing about your life on facebook is more your style. If you complain about your route being small or no good. Im in a resort town in the middle of the desert with ZERO industry. The town is based on play money. So i dont even want to hear your sob story. If you dont like it maybe you should have researched your route more or drove around and checked it out. Matco gives you an opportunity. They arent going to hold your hand the whole way. If you cant hang i dont blame them for getting rid of the low producers. You dont keep your customers that pay twenty bucks every few weeks...no you try and move to the 100 a week every week guy. They are a business just the same as the rest of us.
Take Extra Care Of Your Existing Clients
Your existing clients are what keep your business running during lean times. You will need to take special care of them, since your competitors will no doubt have their eyes on your clients.

Give Your Clients Something More
If possible, provide additional services to your clients by providing them with additional warranty on your products and services. Offer on site service or telephone support. This will not drain your pocket to a large extent, but will go a long way in pleasing potential and existing clients.

Entrepreneur Skills for a Successful Small Business
Anyone can be an entrepreneur. Alas, not everyone has the proper skills necessary to succeed as an entrepreneur. The right skills are certainly a plus, but just like an athlete, an entrepreneur can always learn and hone his or her skills to improve performance.
A small business owner new to the world business ownership may have many struggles ahead of them. A trial-by-fire and learn-as-you-go type of training is undesirable, but sometimes necessary. However, any new entrepreneur with the following skills will experience much less frustration and much more success.

Communication Acumen
At the top of the list is communication. While this encompasses a broad scope, our belief is that for an entrepreneur to succeed, he or she must have that intangible "people skill" that makes an individual a magnet to others. Communication skills may include:
Storytelling - Telling an anecdote, joke, or simple story in such a way that encapsulates an audience.
Presentational - A highly effective entrepreneur will make strategic presentations that convince and influence.
Diplomacy - The art of diplomacy will result in a win-win situation in all types of situations.
Tact - This comes in handy when being a leader, a negotiator, boss, partner, and many more.

Listening Skills
While listening is technically part of communication, we believe it deserves its own heading. It's not enough to simply talk. And talking too soon leads to rash decisions and even regrettable statements.
Being a careful listener is a learned skill. It takes practice. Learning how to stop and gather details from a potential business partner is the right way to determine the most strategic response. Listening can help an entrepreneur effectively deal with employee issues.
A successful entrepreneur will take the time needed to hone this skill to perfection.

Negotiation Finesse
An entrepreneurial small business owner needs to know the art of negotiation in order to make the best decisions and deals that set a business up for success. Negotiation is another learned skill, and it is usually learned at a young age. Remember successfully negotiating with mom and dad if you could stay up just five more minutes? It's this type of skill that helps a young entrepreneur configure a win-win deal with customers, clients, vendors, suppliers, staff, etc.
