SNAP-ON TOOLS Franchise Complaints. The Snap-on Tools mobile tools franchise has been plagued with franchisee lawsuits.
The 2011 Snap-on Tools FDD (SNAP-ON TOOLS Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD)) lists nearly 40 lawsuits by franchisees in the last ten years, including a class action lawsuit (settled in 2006) that cost Snap-on Tools $38 million in settlement fees, attorney fees and other costs.
According to some, the franchise litigation forced Snap-on to address and fix the problems with its franchises, and become a better company.
However, others contend that major problems with the viability of the franchise opportunity and the franchisor’s attitude toward its franchise owners still persist.

They(Snap-on) does take advantage however of new naive dealers if allowed…. Snap-on loves fresh meat.
I have 5 [Snap-on] franchises i am trying to sell off franchises and there is no value what so ever in my business. Snap-on does everything they can to inhibit the sale diminish the value… I don’t know many 13 year veterans in Snap-on running great numbers.

they have the power to put you in business and can take you out. I been a tool man for some time now. When I talk to old timers that been in 25 years or more they all tell me the same thing. The company lost touch with what we are doing out here. It’s all about numbers and that’s it… I think these tool companies got too comfortable letting other people like ourselves do all the hard work and they just collect money.

Why is it that the neighborhood Snap-On Tool truck drivers do not care at all about fixing or replacing a homeowners Snap-On Tools? Try to get a ratchet fixed or replaced is virtually impossible.
I live in Saint Clair Shores,Michigan and Dave(the boss) of Keith Lake are two useless Snap-On Tool distributors that hurt themselves and their company by not fixing or replacing my ratchet wrench. I was going to buy a set of locking flex head ratchets from them but I realized that they only care about the shops they deliver to.
I have been a Snap On Dealer for 24 years,and I will be blunt-this business is what you make it. Take care of your customers,treat them like you want to be treated,and all is well. I will not brag about income,but if I was not making a nice living,it would not take me 24 years to figure it out.
Also,consider that every franchise that ends is not a failure. Dealers die,retire and simply change professions like everybody else.
As a former franchise, realize that most of the "bad" that you read is from those who failed in the business. I was in for nearly 8 years and made a very good living. The horror stories being presented as possibly true, but I did not see this nor hear or it from the many franchisee's I knew.
Research is important, but Snap On spends a lot of time and money training their new franchisee's and do not enjoy having to fill routes. The managers that I had were very eager to help me when I needed it, and were pleasant to work for.
If you are looking for instant riches without having to work, do not pursue this. But if you do work hard, and yes the hours are longer than a minimum wage 8 hour day, you van have a great deal of success. Unfortunately in life, if you want to succeed, you have to put in the extra effort and hard work. Welcome to reality, regardless of the field you choose.
I left primarily due to the amount of hours I was having to put in to be successful. For me, it was too much with a family of 4 kids. But, the money is good if you work at it. I left but have no ill feelings towards the company. You can not work hard and fail, or you can work hard and smart and succeed. There are tons of very happy and successful franchisees in the Snap On world.
If you think this business is about parking a truck on a corner as customers come in and hand you money, wrong business for you.
If you want to work hard, listen to those that are successful and learn from them, you can do very well.
I did well with Snap On, but I worked long days and Saturdays as well. Made good money, but did not have the time to be with my kids that I wanted.
So tired of hearing lazy people bitch about how their failures in the business were someone else's fault. You control your success or failure.
If it was easy, everyone would do it.
A mechanic has been wronged by the company. We have discovered so many things about Snap-on's procedures that more than likely fail to follow fair lending guidelines. Their practices are very shady. They bully one buyer at a time... their tool pushers are as rude and deceitful as those you'll encounter at Snap-on Credit. Unite with others to get some action. We are filing complaints on the state levels, but may be taking this to the news. They've messed with the wrong person as I will see this through to the end.
i retired after 28 years as a snapon dealer i made a very good living you get out of it what you put into it the bussines is not a get rich quick bussines you have to work at it i have seen lots of dealers go under most are because of poor management first is you have to colect your money next you have pay your tool bill you have to learn to say no to field managers you cant order every new tool out like any bussenes you have to manage your inventory i morgaged every thing i owned it was tough sometimes but snapon managmet helped me pull through the best bussines move i ever made
Snap on dealer sold me tools and a toolbox, i made multiple "weekly" mostly cash payments each week. After about a year of payments, thousands of dollars, and paying for the majority of the tools and toolbox, while i was not at work at a car dealership, the Snap on dealer, came in and "repossessed" my entire toolbox, snap on tools, personal tools, anything that was in the box. I was told by fellow employees, that they just came in, saw i was not there, and rolled the entire box and belongings out to their truck. I called them immediately and they told me i was late on payments. I had known for a few weeks prior, after receiving a notice stating i was late on payments, that snap on alleged i was behind. I had a payment scheduled to make the account current, for the day after the reposession, scheduled days prior. In the end, i was not behind on payments, and actually overpaid on a couple of the various accounts. The snap on dealer charged me for some tools on two different accounts, essentially i was paying money to two accounts for the SAME tools. The dealer wouldn't return anything to me, they stated i'd have to pay full price to get any of my snap on tools back, and claimed they had no tools that wern't bought through them/snap on. I never once, received any form of monthly statement showing any charges, interest charges or fees, and only received ONE notice claiming the account was in default, in which i cleared up with snap on immediately upon scheduling a one time payment with them. This was almost 2 years ago. I still have not had any of my personal tools returned, my toolbox or anything i purchased from snap on and am out many thousands of dollars i paid toward the tools.
Upon calling snap on credit after the tools were stolen, they insinuated that there was NO value in my tools and that they would NOT sell the tools so that i could be at least issued the balance of the value after re-sale. They took THOUSANDS in tools, which were nearly paid in full and claimed i defaulted under the Snap on Sale/credit agreement and they are allowed to re-take possession and i have no rights for my value in tools. In the end, after all accounting was done, after snap on credit provided multiple accounting lists, i've over paid, beyond my normal payments due for the term, and they claim no negligence. Buyer Beware, good credit/bad credit, weekly or monthly payments, their credit practices and lending practices don't meet the standard in most states for fair credit lending act requirements, are unethical and fraudulent.

Francisco: The Regians have hired attorney Jerry Marks of Marks & Klein to represent them. Marks & Klein won a $125M settlement for Snap-On franchisees some years back, so they are well-represented. If and when Snap-On decides to do the right thing and pay the Regians what they are owed, we will report it on this site.

We have seen unsubstantiated claims and innuendo against the Regians being hurled from the shadows but not a single shred of substantiation.
We followed up on claims that they used the fund from a fundraiser to build a house. Completely false. Claims that King sold outside his area. He provided proof that that wasn't true. There were anonymous posters (like yourself) claiming he was buying broken tools at yard sales and pawn shops and submitting them for reimbursement. King Regian was a $1M dollar plus dealer who wasn't that aggressive submitting returns. Seems unlikely he'd have time to waste going to yard sales when he was busy outperforming most dealers nationally.
This website has defended Snap-on franchisees and found most to be honest and hard-working people. It's too bad there's a small group who hurl unsubstantiated charges, vulgar insults and cowardly attacks at a successful dealer and his wife. Please send some proof of what you say or keep your slanderous comments to yourself.
