According to a recent company press release:
Muscle Maker Grill®, a fast-casual restaurant franchise that serves freshly prepared meals with its guests’ health in mind, announces it has signed 13 franchise agreements to develop 22 locations throughout the country.
.
Among the 22 franchises, which raises the total number of Muscle Maker Grill locations under development to 220, are the brand’s first Nebraska, Arizona, Nevada and North Carolina restaurants.
.
“This is a significant achievement for Muscle Maker Grill and we are thrilled to report our steady growth and continued expansion into the Midwest and West,” said Rod Silva, founder of Muscle Maker Grill. “Our truly unique concept of great food with your health in mind is gaining popularity throughout the U.S. We look forward to helping each of our new franchisees grow their local presence with unparalleled corporate support.”
Muscle Maker Grill has 70 locations listed as open on its website.
It’s press release states that it has 220 locations “under development” and will open 100 locations in the next few years.
But is Muscle Maker Grill’s hunger for growth stronger than its concern that every franchise location succeed?
The franchise failure/termination rate already appears to have reached about 14%.
The 2013 Muscle Maker Grill Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) indicates that of the73 Muscle Maker Grill franchise restaurant locations that opened between 2010 and 2012, 10 (14%) failed or were terminated.
As some of those franchises were newly opened, it seems likely that failure rate will increase.
Each Muscle Maker Grill franchise represents an investment between $179,500 – $430,000.
Some of the franchise locations that have been deleted from the Muscle Maker Grill location list include:
We hope Muscle Maker Grill franchise owners, employees and customers will share their thoughts and experiences (anonymous is fine) so prospective franchisees can make more informed decisions.

I'm an avid goer to Muscle Maker locations. I love the food, although the sodium is high in some of the wraps.
I've been to at least 10-15 locations in New Jersey and New York.
Recently they've been dropping like flies and I wasn't sure why. Of locations I've ate at - Lodi, West Caldwell, Ridgewood, River Vale, Edgewater, Englewood and Manahawkin NJ all seemed to have closed, without warning.
The list of 28 you mentioned is actually probably much higher. It doesn't really make sense as I thought the concept was great and healthy eating is actually in with the younger demographic these days.
Matt, ironic you added to this thread yesterday with the Muscle Maker locations you have found to be closed which were not included in the May 27 post. I was going to add the Lodi, NJ location earlier this week as I recently discovered it was closed when driving by their location. I have also learned the Huntington Station, NY Muscle Maker restaurant has gone. More importantly, it might be time for the franchisor to take action to help their franchisees avoid losing their investment in this system.
So far I've found 37 Muscle Maker Grill locations that were once listed as OPEN and are now presumed CLOSED. Here's the updated list. If you have corrections, know additional closures, or know reasons for particular closures, please post here or email ADMIN at UnhappyFranchisee[at]gmail.com in confidence.

The Muscle Maker Grill currently lists 58 clubs as open. That would indicate that 37 of the 95 stores opened - about 40% - have closed (rough guesstimate).
Sound about right?
I drove by the Lyndhurst NJ Muscle Maker restaurant earlier this week and found it closed.
Anyone considering the purchase of a Muscle Maker franchise needs to understand the type of training you will receive to prepare you for running your business. The Muscle Maker training for franchisees is heavy on operations. They will teach you how to roll a wrap, operate the cash register and how to mop the floor but they neglect topics related to managing your P&L, managing employees and conducting effective local marketing campaigns. The training is designed for the franchisee to be working in their business, not on their business. Muscle Maker wants owner/operator franchisees who will be behind the counter everyday performing grunt work. They are not looking for business people who are seeking to build a business.
You can add the MMG on Washington street in Jersey City NJ to the list I ate there on Nov 12th and on the 13th a sign on the door closed for good and a public auction was held on Nov 15th. What a shame it was always packed at lunch
Jester: Thanks for the tip. MMG website lists it as "Temporarily Closed" but there is an auction site with pictures for the 15th, as you said.
Disturbingly, in the last 2 months these 5 locations seem to have disappeared from the Muscle Maker Grill website:
NJ Cherry Hill
NJ Lyndhurst
PA Allentown
PA Pittsburgh
PA Pleasant Hills
MMG lists these as "temporarily closed":
NJ Jersey City [closed]
TX Austin [closed since July 2013]
Please share any updates/insights as I'm going to set up a separate page to list all Muscle Maker Grill locations both open and closed.

I wonder if the old saying "All publicity is good publicity" still holds true?
